(Not sure where to ask) is his comb too big?

I’ve got a beautiful leghorn rooster, he’s 5 ish months old. His comb seems HUGE to me. Does this look normal? (In the second picture he’s recovering from fighting a hawk). His comb is soo big I’m worried he’ll have neck problems holding his head up!

I have seen lots of roos with combs that big! It will be a problem if you live in an area where he could get frostbite. But, I don't think there is anything that you can do.

Ok! My other Roos have either walnut combs, little rose combs, and my bantam Cochin has a tiny single comb. So when this guy started growing his, I was hoping it was normal. I can grab it with my whole hand! I could fan myself with it (I won’t of course).

It's perfectly normal. Leghorns tend to have really big combs. My leghorn hens all have massive combs.

Whew! Thank you for the reassurance! He’s still young and VERY VERY hormone driven, so I was thinking the darker part of his is due to hormone fluctuations. My other roosters did the same thing. But then I started to worry that his comb is so big, it’s not getting enough oxygen/blood flow. I’m a worrier. It’s sad really.

Both of my roosters will get a slightly purple end of their combs. Purple combs do point to issues normally but in larger combs and in some roosters it is normal. However, it is understandable to be concerned and worried about it given that it normally is a cause for concern.

Yes I believe that the bigger the comb, the less circulation it gets to the whole thing and that is why there are some purple parts, but that's totally ok. It doesn't hurt him.

Great! He’s such a great rooster, I just want him (and all my chickens) to be healthy.
