What exactly does cuckoo mean, is it a type of coloring? What? I keep seeing the word pop up but can't find what it means anywhere......

In other words, cuckoo is a barred bird. (Black and white stripes) However unlike the barring associated with plymouth rocks and some other breeds, it is very fuzzy looking. Think of the difference as cuckoo being drawn freehand with crayons and barred being drawn with a straight edge and markers.
