Not thinking of doing this, but...

a lot of people that breed soft fluffy chickens such as orpingtons and stuff like that artificially inseminate their chickens, Why? Because with all of the feathers its hard to get fertile eggs without clipping em

Well, I just posted another thread about an egg-eating problem I'm having. Once I identify the culprit, and after making attempts to break her of the habit, I may end up rehoming this hen to a soup pot near me. If this happens, I will not be happy about having only two hens. But, I've read that you don't want to introduce chicks to a flock of adults. So, would it be a good solution to artificially inseminate one of the hens and let her raise her own chicks? Would she protect the babies from the other hen? How many fertile eggs does one hen normally lay after an insemination?
