My son is involved with the 4-H chick chain and all the paperwork says the chicks are Barred Rock hens. They are 8 weeks old. These look nothing like a Barred Rock and I can't get anyone on the phone who knows what they are. Anyone?

Also if it helps they were completely black as babies, a couple had tiny spots of white under the wing but mostly black.

I would guess black sex links [usually a gold or red rooster x a barred hen] Their moms are probably barred rocks.
Good news with that: if they are BSL, all are pullets.

They are really cute! They do look like black sex links. Their mom was probably a barred rock but the dad was a Rhode Island Red. The pullets do not inherit the barred gene. The cockerels would have one barred gene so when they grow up they have the coloring of a barred rock hen. Sorry you didn't get what you wanted, but they should still be good layers!

Yes Lightchick that is what they looked like. I'm not upset about the change in breed just wanted to know what they are. They are very sweet and will be a happy addition to our flock no matter what they are. Right now we have 7 Guineas, two Rhode Island whites and one very spoiled naked neck. Also 6 baby silkies in with the 4-H babies. We have quite the full house right now! :D
