@FeyRaine you have little chip monks too, and what are your black chicks? My chicks have gone out to the big brooder box I call them the pigs, I had to put two waterers in with them they drink sooo much don't remember the others drinking that much and eat, these babies can eat I have 15 chicks I think I posted pics of the babies. I love the close up of you chick, when they ask for pics for the cutest baby or the calendar you should submit that one.

I have figured that we have 14 blockers for this swap, I hope that helps on how many blocks to make, sorry for the ones who already shipped, but I have not gotten anymore drop notices. This is who I have listed for this swap.

The chip monk ones are from my CreamLegbar "Prince" he is currently over my layer pen (plus the CL pullet Victoria & SHF Flo)
the 3 old hens have been teaching him how to be not just Prince but also charming ;> took 3 months of them pushing him off the top roost rung every eve etc etc but now they allow him up there & the eggs are all fertile. The chip monk ones are from any of my brown egg layers (could be a Del, a Sexlink, etc hatchery mutt types) oddly the colored egg I thought was from the cl pullet turned out to be from my EE "Ugl;y' that is the cute all light buff chick in the pic. who looks fine but this am was dead in the brooder ??!! (I have the last 2 hatchers who both had hernias & I didn't think would last the first night still alive & that nice fat active chick dead. Ugly is my best layer ever - she lays every day for 6+ months for 3 yrs & counting now but I can't get a chick out of her. 6 diff. roos now, only 3 of whom would she allow to cover her (one I suspect she actually killed as a way of saying no), of the fertile eggs 90% never go past day 15, I think I've gotten 3 live chicks out of her the one that died today included. I give up! Her eggs are only for eating from now on. Hopefully Victoria (cl pullet) & Prince will give me all the colored egg laying flock I desire & Ugly can just spend the rest of her days making my breakfast egg.

Here are Prince Victoria & Flo "helping" me clean the turkey pen a few wks ago
(See the Bourbon Sister peeking in from outback of her pen?)

As to the black chicks, they are mutts all from mixed for the winter flock of purebreeds so they are any x of SHF/Cochin/EngOrp/Maran
about have have leg feathers. They are going to a replacement flock for some ppl I know who had a disaster last summer & can't aford replacements so I've been doing some extra hatching for them, this is the last batch of which I'm keeping a couple for me (was to include that chick that didn't make it so now I'm just puzzled).

Here are some of my options:

Of these blk ones the fat one on the right is likely at least part orp.
the ones on the left could poss be pure SFH & I need a SFH roo so I'm leaning toward one of those to grow out & see...

This is where we are at on this swap. Are you ladies on target? A couple of you we haven't heard from you. Are you all ok?

Hi ;) I should learn not to be such a procrastinator... I love the speed piece idea. So I did them as shown in step 1...I'm fairly new to quilting...only done a few. So the pink and sage I cut 2 1/2x 18" strips...I am only getting 7 2 1/2 squares as I am in step 2...so I must have done something wrong as I will only get 28 squares not 64...
Speed piecing PART 2 P2step1 P2 step2 P2step3 Take the pink&sage pressed open and lay on the pink strips leaving a small space between and heading the pink to the top, sew 4 long strips (half your remaining pink strips) on the left half on the right to make 2 diff types of blocks, see photos below: note there are some small wasted pieces when you cut them apart, this allows you to make sure each is perfectly square when you cut apart. Here are what you'll have after doing the stips one way (4 strips this way) Now you need to do the other 4 sewn on the other side, this pic shows one of each, see how they look similar but are mirror images of each other Now you have all your 9 pieces available to go ahead and assemble your blocks I hope I've given enough detail to explain this speed method :) And now I need to race the rest of my hatching eggs to the finish...
