no it won't. The chick's are so formed inside their egg to the point where humidty changes due to lockdown will not effect them what so ever. I thought the same thing becuase my first hatch i went into locdown 1 day early and got a 80% hatch rate from my LG forced air.

Good to hear. Drat. I just started a post about it.

My hen is still sitting on the remaining eggs in the coop. The family decided to bring the one chick ( that hatched early) into the house two days after she hatched as the other hens were kicking mom off the nest to lay in the box. When this happened one of the eggs got pecked, not all the way through but fairly badly. I put a tiny patch of DUCT tape over the spot and am hoping the best but preparing for the worst. That was a week ago and it does not smell so who knows what will happen? The eggs are due to hatch the 21st but i hope they are a tiny bit early as i have to be gone that day ;( The chick is named Peep and the kids are having a blast with her. As of today she is starting her little wing feathers and practicing scratching. We put a beanie baby chick in her box and a Beanie turkey that has a back part she can crawl under like her mom. I also carry her for a part of the day inside my shirt where she is warm and can feel my movement. We put a mirror in the box and she loves to sit next to it for company. I can't wait until she has other chicks to interact with. I am hoping against hope that the chicks in the nest are developing, i have not taken them from mom to candle them. Good Luck to everyone in their hatches!

what a great pic! that's awesome how it's doing fine by itself. Tape was a good idea on the pecked egg, i hope it makes it..then you can name it DC short for Duct Tape..lulz!

It's getting pretty close on my one egg. I'm getting a little nervous. On this particular hatch, I either get 100% hatch rate or 100% fail. I knew I was silly for only setting one.

Hey guys, I read a few threads here about banty eggs hatching on day 19 so I went ahead and locked down yesterday. I guess now my hatch days are anything between Wed and Saturday. I have seen a couple of them rolling in the bator and last time I candled they were just about filling the space in there so I thought they might go early.

wow really??? all im hatching are banty eggs and i've never heard or seen anywhere that banty's hatch early?? hmmm that kinda worries me now! well i hope they will make it. We should all officially be on lockdown!

That's because Banty eggs as a group don't hatch early. I'm not sure where the info is coming from that they do. You can have early hatches, but not because the chick is bantam. Remember the Halloween Hatch and how I kept having chicks come early? It was because my LG which I was using as a hatcher had a short temperature spike. I was getting Standard and Bantam chicks coming early. That's why I replied somewhere or other that in an incubator, I will get early hatches. Under a broody, never.

My 3 bantam chicks that were due on Halloween hatched on the 31st, though one zipped on October 30.

Now, certain breeds like Seramas are known to hatch early. Bantams as a group, no. And speaking of which...My lone bantam egg is pipped. I can't get myself to agree on when I set this poor egg and I know I didn't mark it until after the fact. So, it is either day early, right on time, or a day late. This is why I usually keep a calendar. And I did. I have the duck eggs on it and the silkies and seramas.

I had a temperature drop yesterday for unknown reasons, though. So anything is possible.

The four eggs my broody hen is sitting on includes one bantam. One was her own (smaller and pale pinkish) and it hatched a week early due to the confusion i detailed before. Three are New Hampshire or RRed or Barred Rock mixed with the Polish, and one is a Bantam Red. It will be interesting to see if they all hatch at the same time or if the Bantam is early. I put the eggs under her late Halloween afternoon so I am unsure exactly what day they are due to hatch. The duct tape egg still has no leaking or smell so i am seriously encouraged. I am so excited to see if any of these eggs hatch and to reacquaint little Peep with her mother and hopefully "siblings". I also hope that she is accepted back into the group easily. This little chick is adorable, right now she is snuggled against the beanie chick facing the mirror... she needs some fluffy companionship. She was almost all black but her pin feathers are coming in white, it will be fun to see what color the little mutt turns out to be. Is anyone else already plotting the next group to go into the incubator or am i whacked? lol
