Hi everyone. I candled my silkie eggs today. One group is on day five the other group is on day six. Out of 14 eggs 10 are going strong. I can't quite see in the egg I got out of the backyard. It's a huge brown egg from one of my barred rock hens. Does anyone know what it means when I candle and see like a floaty shadow? I can't see veins in these but don't want to throw them out prematurely. It looks like a slightly darker area that will shift around when I turn the egg in my hand. Thanks for any advice.

i know exactly what your talking about. Your basically looking at the yolk at this point. Look carefully tho....if you see a small spyder-like figure with red leg's...your egg is just now starting to grow. I normally do not candle this early...but i have before. You just need to keep a sharp eye when doing so. If you see a small figure moving back in forth inside the egg with every turn of your hand...it could be a dislodged air cell.

that's awesome...there is another turkey day hatch specifically for turkey day. This one is for an early turkey day hatch. good luck to you tho!
well it's as close to day 7 as were gonna get at this point...lol. So! Who all has candled?? I will be here in a few hours. Once you give me your viable egg count, i will adjust your count in the first post.
I haven't been on the forum for awhile so missed this thread. I set 10 "barnyard surprise" eggs under my broody and due on the 21st. Good luck everyone!
