November 22: "Hatch Finished" Now with PIC'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bob's look just like the coturnix to me.

I have 4 more hatched this morning, one more zipped. Lost the one with the yolk, not suprised. The other 40 or so are doing good, except for one. It just spins in circles???? Any ideas?? Should I go ahead and just cull it, put it out of its misery? I've never seen that before.

Anything new Asylum11????

i would wait another day on the "spinner" baby. Well i woke up and i have a very...VERY tiny pip. It looks like a tiney triangle but the bottom part not broke off yet. While i was adding water to the bator to get the Humid. up...an egg or two started chatting inside the bator. Looks like i got some life in there! lol.....it's late day 20 for me....maybe i did everything so correct that they will all hatch on day 21 like all the books say lol. I was very happy to see that small pip....it's been and hour and it has not got any bigger..but it's a start.

Yeah!

I checked on the one that had zipped, he was dead. Whats up with that?

So after seeing that I checked another one that was pipped and slowly chipped away at the shell, there was a lil blood so i stopped. I don't want to loose anymore like that one that was zipped and dead, he was obviously ready to hatch. I know I'm not suppose to open the bator, but my humidity was at like 80% so I don't think I lost much by opening it. I just hate to stand by and not help them if I can, but I know they are probably weaker chicks and weren't meant to survive.

5 chicks out, and the remaining 6 are zipping.

Asylum, i am so happy to hear your good news! I just knew it would turn out well. My chick under the broody did not show any signs of pipping until half way through day 21 so you are right on schedule (i had a mix of Bantam and full sized). What great news and pics from everyone this morning, thanks for sharing. Here are the first shots of Peep who is a week old and her two new siblings. The darker of the two new ones is a Bantam mix and the lighter is either a Buff Orp or a New Hampshire mix (polish father). I am so excited to see what colors they end up being. Peep is a Pheonix/Polish mix. After an hour in the bator last night i put them all together in the brooder. After an initial sizing up from Peep, they all got along great and now are a huddled mass of contentment. The remaining egg is still out with the broody. We candled it late last night and saw it was filled with a dark mass but there is no sound nor movement. I will give it a couple days before i decide what to do with it. I have exactly one week before my 'bator 15' are due, and i am already nervous. i learned a lot during this process and i fear i have made some mistakes along the way. I sure hope that i don't create the sad fate for anymore sweet chicks that DT faced. Congrats to those of you who are finished with your hatches, and good luck to those of you who are in the midst of the anxiety of it

Lint did ok over night in the Critter Keeper. It needed to be cleaned up this morning because it made a favored perch for the older chicks. I let him out this morning to try eating and drinking. I am planning to put him up again in the evening. I also moved the largest pre-Halloween chicks to the barn and the next largest group to the other brooder. Murphy and company are watching the new baby.

thanks kat. still has not made any progress so maybe it turned and decided to pip elsewhere. New update tho! I have another larger pip in my B2 egg. "Since the mother's name is bella, i marked all her egg's B1 through B8". It's a good strong pip...tho the egg is right underneath my fan. What i could see of the membrain was brite white, so it's beginning to make me think that the fan is drying out the membrain. Humid is 73% so says my walmart hygromiter. I was thinking about opening my bator and misting some warm water with my mist'er bottle over the egg's to further up my humidity so no more membrains could start to dry out once they pip. Think i should? Or give it a little more time?
