November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

Do you use a pipeline or individual bottles/buckets with nipples?  Do you silicone them in?  We're still working on ours...threaded into PVC with Teflon plumbing tape they are leaking like crazy so still using the founts until we get it figured out.  (If there is a better thread for this I'm happy to move over.)

Single bucket. For the hens, I just drilled holes in the bottom of a 5-gal. bucket and pushed the nipples in. They leak a little occasionally, but not near enough to outweigh that I don't have to worry about the water for days, and there's never litter or poop in the water! The chicks will just have a smaller version.

This is a foamy, textured stuff. I guess better described as shelf liner, not shelf paper. I'm not worried about clean up (I can put my bator in the dishwasher). I just don't want them having to walk around on the hardware cloth.
Ah. The non-slip stuff also used under area rugs. That's a good idea! I have a cabinet model, so cleanup is another type of issue from the little styrofoam or plastic-housed incubators.

Tomorrow at 10am starts day 18! Do I lock down then, or at the end of day 18?

My plan is to put down shelf paper, lay the eggs on their sides, block the light and fan with hardware cloth, and up the humidity to 65-70%. Am I missing anything?

I'm getting so excited! Hoping for 4 out of 7!

try this! I'll look more and post as I find them...we need to know if there are oozing sores or is it's eyes just swollen closed?
Nothing is oozing, just swollen and one eye does have what appears to be a stye or sore. I just checked on her again and she can't sqwack. She tries and opens her mouth wide but nothing comes out. I'm so sad. Should I take her babies from her?

Quote: she probably has pox in her throat...I've read that you can lube her throat with oil...do you have coconut oil caps? open those...feed her soft moist food...I would go to the tractor supply tomorrow and get the vaccine and give it to them all...I think you can give it to the chicks....maybe it's when they're a week old...well they can tell you...and still put the apple cider vinegar in the water...it boosts their immunity...
you have to control the mosquitos...I've had really good luck with the vet rx because it's got rosemary oil in it which deters mosquitos but I've read that vicks works also...with the vetrx I mix it with warm water in a spray bottle and spray the birds and the coops...it works on those awful black flies too...oh if you order vet rx on amazon you can get it quickly..
