November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

Day 20 started at 5:30 yesterday and I went to sleep (well, for a couple hours before having to peek in the bator) with 2 pips. I got up at 4am to a chick and 9 pips! I now have 2 chicks and 2 zips and I think 7 pips- 19 eggs total so it's going to be a long day here! I won't be hard to find though-got a chair parked right in front of the bator!!

Half way through day 21 and nothing yet. humidity 60-65% I only had to add about 2 oz of water in incubator to get humidity to this point. No sponge or rag etc. hoping to see something soon!

you nut!! have fun it is so amazing
I too had 19 due today all but 2 are hatched last 2 pipped

I really need to find one or two baby chicks somewhere. This little guy is almost constantly yelling for me if I'm not right there with him. The other two eggs my sister set don't seem to be going to hatch, and the earliest any other eggs will hatch is two weeks from now. No one local hatches chicks though, especially in Fall/Winter. And I don't know of any hatcheries that have females or SR available right now, let alone allow orders of 5 or less...

try putting a little stuffed animal in with it...I drape a wash rag or lately a dog sweater over the animal and the little chicks climb under and feel snuggly like its their mama

I have a stuffed animal and one of my tshirts in with him. He falls asleep after a little while, but as soon as he wakes up, he yells for mama.

Oh yes, it is plenty warm enough. Directly under the heat lamp is around 100 degrees, or slightly over, and it is in the corner of the brooder so he can choose how warm he wants to be. I have raised several baby chicks before. He stops yelling as soon as he sees me.
