what kind of hen? she laced brahma?

Today has gone so badly that there is only good left. I woke up with a fever a very sore muscles. I was rushing to do chicken chores so I could get back to bed. I didn't even see Penny (my first hatched chicken) until I counted and started looking for her. All I saw was a big ball of feathers hang from the slats of a chair. I thought it was by her neck. I ran over and was so happy to see her litte face looking up at me. She was the one I had to hunt down using my chicken positioning system. I think since I saved her before, she stayed calm and waited for me again. Her foot is swollen. I think she will be ok. She didn't fussor fight me at all. Such a good chicken. I don't know how long she was there. Maybe an hour. I heard a bit of comotion but it stopped right away so I didn't worry. Max is lending Penny her heating pad for the leg.

O my goodness!! sweet baby

Quote: it's not the temp! mama get off their eggs often and some incubation sites even recommend a cooling down during the day...I don't.....but that baby has an infected yolk! bacteria must have gotten into the shell some way.....you never know with shipped eggs what the flocks health is like....if the eggs were washed etc....

I'm so sorry we've all been through these types of heartbreaks!!!

So sweet. I love seeing the chicks poking out thru the feathers.

A neighbor sold her to me for 10.00.She got rid of her because she kept going broody......................

The neighbor said she is Blue red laced Wyandotte..............but must be a mix...................
I don't care what breed, she hatches two to three clutches a year.
This year she taught a first time broody how to raise her chicks.

I was thinking that if you show the picture to your Sara...........she might get the hint and go broody..................

it is the temperture if using a incubator and this happens only the last 3 days of incubation

Where i live the hens incubate the eggs and raise the chicks themselves i only incubate goose eggs even tho the geese incubate their eggs themselves aswel
