I have ducks!!!!!!! Seen a tiny crack this morning now it has a bigger crack and a small hole. This is so exciting. My very first hatched ducks. Cayuga from show quality.

it won't hurt to candle but it may be too early...if you do look you might see veining maybe not this early and you hopefully see a air cell forming not just a bubble...

I candled and seen veins in three of the six eggs!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!

Need some help here....my duckling has pipped the wrong end of the egg....I removed the little bit of shell and saw it pushing fiercely on the outer membrane....so I made a tiny hole where it was pushing and luckily NO blood....he's chirping at me, but I can't see anything.....What do I do???

Ok so no progress since 11 am. I'm starting to get antsy here. Out of the 6 eggs I set only 2 came this far. They are a pale cream colored egg with Cayuga inside so I can see their outline perfectly but no movements for a while now. How long do I wait before I attempt to help?

I would google "when to assist when hatching eggs." A thread by Sally Sunshine will come up on how and when to assist. I would do nothing until you read that. The baby is probably absorbing the blood vessels and egg yoke. If you open it up you might regret it. I opened one up last night and am now waiting for it to absorb everything. Not a pleasant experience!

If it can breath.it should be OK for awhile.............

leave it...it still most likely needs several more hours could be days....it will probably hatch itself just fine...as long as it's breathing it's fine for now
