November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

Odd questions... Our first babies are now 2 weeks old (tonight and tomorrow.) Our two brooders are definitely too small now. We've kept the shavings cleaned out pretty regularly (fresh in the morning or late afternoon, but no more than 28 hours between changes.

Woke up to all the chickies are really dirty. Someone has almost blackish liquid poo. We've been using ACV with mother in their waterers. They are on unmedicated feed right now. I'm separating them to see if I can figure out which chick it is.

Can I bathe them and lower the light in a clean spot to keep them warm? At what age could I put a roosting spot in the brooder for them to get them above the mess they make?

I have 41 to hatch next week so I'm about ready for these guys to move to a bigger/better spot. Just want to make sure they are healthy before I do.

put chicken poop in your search engine and a thread will come up from backyard chickens that shows you all the normal poos it doesn't sound like a problem poo

you can put a perch...they'll be so happy

I have given babies a bath right after they hatch if they need it!!

So I was just outside giving my chickens their mid-day snack (They get their pellets scattered for breakfast and then any stale/old food I have around for mid-day) and broody was out so I checked on the eggs... Two of them were definitely shaking a LOT and at least one was peeping at me! I guess that means at least one is pipped internally... I can't wait!

Wow, this thread moves fast! I had 4 silkies due on oct 1. 5 originally but 1 infertile. All hatched sept 30! At 3 Days old they are already getting tip feathers! I have moved them to the outdoor brooder and they are doing great.

Ah, Franken Marans passed still in the egg. I eggtopsied and have never seen such a bloody mess inside. Giant black clots of blood and a ruptured yolk sack. So sad, she would have been a lovely Marans mix - she was silvery white with very feathered legs already. RIP little one.
