November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

I am incubating eggs for the first time and looking for a hatch-a-long to follow! Is it too late to join this? :p

I am have 13 showgirl eggs and setting them in the incubators at 9pm tonight (7 into the Brinsea Advance and 6 into the Styrofoam incubator)!

Nope it's never to late to join! The more the merrier :) hope your hatch goes well! :)

Thank you, Angie! Thank you! I sure hope so myself seeing I am taking a chance with *gulp* shipped eggs. Let's hope the post office was good to me.
I have 4 eggs in the current batch set on the 13th and 3 have hatched and the 4th is pipped. I have another batch set the next day and one of them is pipped already too

Oh how exciting! I really loved hearing about peoples' experiences with the pips and chirps and gosh I hope to have that.

Welcome! I'm also doing shipped eggs this time around. Showgirls are so cute! I had some in the past. Now I just have silkies and naked necks :p

okay this is what I have experienced.
if you take the chick so that she hatches the others then the 1st chick won't listen to her...to much time will have passed
if she keeps the chick and the next ones due hatch that might go okay because you have about 3 days before she'll leave the nest to raise the chicks but she might leave the last egg.
if it were me I would take the first chick until the second batch hatch....give the 1st chick back to her that same night when they're asleep...then she will most likely stay on the nest to hatch the last! you should make sure she's eating and drinking especially at the end because she'll be on the nest extra long!!

I think that sounds like a good plan best of luck!
what kind of hen is she....I know my orpington mama would do what I've described above...as long as that first chick isn't separated from her too long!
She is a golden sex link. She is 7 months old. She only laid eggs for about a month then went broody. I have some food and water in her nest with her. Although I may take them out, she keeps pulling the food dish under her and is trying to sit on it. When do chicks start to pip?

How fun! I have only three pullets: a Speckled Sussex, a Dark Cornish, and a White Cochin from MyPetChicken. I wanted to add something exotic to my mix so I chose some showgirls from this breeder! Plus I have some friends who would love one or two- so extras have places to go! Though in all-honestly- I will be so happy if even one hatches. I am so nervous about this hatch! We shall see what happens. I cannot wait til one day my White Cochin will become broody so I can have her just adopt some shipped eggs.

What are your shipped eggs? c:

Mine are salmon faverolles from a breeder that has cloverleaf and merlin lines so they're going to be gorgeous! what color showgirls do you have? I bet you're gonna get some cute little silkies in the hatch too. Silkies and showgirls are super broodies, so I'm sure you'll have no lack of broodies in your future

I caved... I bought shipped eggs again.... But they will be worth the heart ache if I can get at least a 50% hatch rate. Got a dozen of these https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/741027/12-wheaten-blue-wheaten-ameraucana-buy-it-now
OK, someone hold me to this... THESE will be my last hatch of the year UNLESS my Isbars or Lavender Ameraucana start laying. I have read its going to be the worst winter in 100 years :/ Soooo even in Texas I better be careful.
