November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

I am looking to set just a few eggs! I am in Washington State and cant find anyone who has the eggs I want! I am looking for Ameraucana and Jersey Giant eggs! Anyone have advice on where to go for them?

Thanks

Put on craigslist what you are looking for, also if you call your feed store they can always give you numbers to breeders. Be prepared to question the Ameraucana eggs (most are really only Easter Eggers) ask where they got their flock from. I made the mistake and now I have Easter Egger mixes that don't even give me blue eggs.

So I candled a few days ago, and was meaning to ask a question here, but I had been sick that night with what turned out to be the flu, and I've been sleeping for five days straight. Anyway, I candled, but the I couldn't see anything! It's like the egg was totally solid, I couldn't even see the air sac. These were white eggs that were eight days into incubation. Any ideas??

well! that doesn't sound good...use a very strong flashlight go in a closet if you need to so it will be as dark as you can get it and try again!! do they smell at all?

I have ten in lockdown due the 6th.
Second hatch.
First hatch was 6 ducks and two accidental chicks.
They are all happy and healthy.
I hope the beginners luck continues.
I'm using my homemade incubator.
I tried to post pics but they wont go.

So the last of the eggs set on 9-11 have hatched - another 100% hatch. One of the 9-12 eggs already hatched too and the last 3 of the 9-12 eggs are pipped. One of those is an experimental Marans egg that had been in the fridge for 2 weeks when it was set. Just wanted to see how it went. As of now it is pipped - so far so good.

How cool is that! I too, just for chuckles, pulled 4 eggs from the fridge to fill out a row. They were more than 2 weeks old and the fridge is at 40 degrees. Day 7 candle showed all 4 developing.

Day 10 is tonight. Can't wait to see how they are doing! Of course, I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch, but so far, so good! The rest of the eggs, like the last batch, were just stored on top of my chest freezer at room temp until I was ready to set them. The house is kept at 78 degrees.

I rebuilt my incubator so I could have it in the house this time because of the wild temp swings outside...and my biggest challenge now is going to be getting the humidity up at lockdown. We'll see. I suspect I'll figure out how to manage that when the time comes.

your candling down from the big end??

Flashlight on the big end, no air sac. Even rotten eggs that I candle have air sacs. I'm going to try to candle again soon.
