Help my incubator got shut off last night. Properly 12 hours the chicks were suppose to hatch the 9th. Any chance of them still hatching. They are heating back up as we speak.
I think me and the legbar chicken are jinked.
I guess that's part of the hatching game.

I hatched 5 Serama ,just for the fun of it...............
4 were frizzle....................surprised me Really wanted straight feather this time.but
they are cute either way...........Moms picture..................She was young, much fuller feathers now.......

Setting my next set of eggs tomorrow!! Hoping for a better hatch rate on my second try! (Not too hard to bear 1/13) Also looking into getting some Silkie eggs to attempt to hatch, but wondering if I should work through another hatch or two first before I start paying more money for eggs vs. some relatively inexpensive local eggs. Haven't been able to locate any local Silkie eggs yet, though I'm sure that will be easier this Spring. This time I am setting eggs from a local breeder who has: White Leg Horn, Rhode Island Reds, New Hampshire Reds, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, English Blue Orpington, English Black Orpington, Austrolorpe, Americauna, Golden Comet, Welsummer, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Buff Brahma, and assorted bantys along with the possibility of some barnyard mixes, which I am also fine with. Just can't wait to get them started! My new thermometer/hygrometer has arrived and after making some adjustments to my humidity AND temp, it's running steady in the right place. Could have been my issue with my last hatch, temps and humidity incorrect maybe.

Quick question, just in case my bator doesn't hold temperature over night and I need to run it a while longer to straighten it out, what is the best way to store the eggs to prevent damage?? Thanks!!

I was just telling my husband last night that I had no clue when my 2nd broody's chicks were due to hatch bc I was so focused on the 1st broody. Well whatdoyaknow? As I cleaned their living quarters I took her off the nest and saw a baby chickie! One is still waiting to hatch so we'll see......

That is what I am most excited about too! Hoping I end up with at least one! Also, even though they are very common, I would like to have an Americauna. I don't have any and I just think they're cute and sound like they are good layers. Also hope for more Silver Laced Wyandottes. I have one and just LOVE her. She's a jittery little thing, but very sweet at the same time.

Nope, you can sit on the egg yourself. A cute fluffy chick, is a cute fluffy chick, no matter how you get it. It still feeds our addiction. My favorite pictures are the littles ones peeking out from between the mommies feathers.

The small white Silkie is the one that had food stuck in her throat.................
She is the dearest chick but still way behind her siblings.................
The advise I received that night helped get her throat clear...........
used olive oil drops and just kept gently rubbing.

I've had a few that got behind in growing after recovering from an illness or injury. Some caught up, some stayed smallish but all are healthy. One is my perfect Head chicken, super egg layer, Sara and another is my silly little Molly who is still one third the size of her brother. Still a beautiful hen.

Yes, someone suggested that. I already received the email. I got Sulmtalers, Barnvelders, Bielefelders, Birchen Marans, Black Marans and a Bresse.

A true Ameraucana is not very common. But if they spelled it Americana, then it is probably an Easter Egger, more common. An Ameraucana will only lay blue eggs, an Easter Egger can lay any color but most likey green or blue. I have 2 Ameraucanas (still not 100% they really are) and quiet a few Easter Eggers. My Easter Eggers seem to have the best personality of all of my chickens. They are so funny and beautiful. Mine have just started laying and so far all green eggs. I love them. My first one hass laid 24 eggs in 29 days. She even snuck into the house and climbed up onto my bed to snuggle with me one morning. Maybe not everyone wants a chicken that friendly but I love it.

Just candled on day 6. I know I said I'd candle on day 8 but I really wanted a quick check of what MAY hatch 13 of 30 have blastoderms. I suppose from what I've been reading that is good for shipped eggs? Out of all of the others 1 had a blood ring and all the others were clear. So going by the markings the following have blastoderms: 7 Bobbi Porto blue roo over black and blue, 2 buff, 2 Bobbi Porto white over white, 1 black over splash and black, and 1 white pen. All silkies. I'm really cheerleading for the buffs...but all will be beautiful colors. 3 of them had air cells on the small end so I turned them around in the egg tray. I hope they can pip fast!
