November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

I just looked up crested cream legbars.... so PRETTY! I guess I have another breed to add to my wish list LOL Good luck on your hatch! I'm on my second hatch but it's staggered... does that count as all the same hatch?

All of mine are shipped eggs so I'm looking forward to hearing about your progress. I've read so many different reviews on shipped eggs that I'm always interested to hear more

Lol! Thank you! I have a pair of the legbars that are about 8 wks old but I need a few more girls for the roo!! You can't find any around here for sale so I had to get the eggs shipped :) My first couple hatches were on shipped eggs and now that I had one hatch from close by fresh eggs, its going to be tuff. My shipped eggs have been 3/15 and 6/24. Non shipped was 10/12! I'm addicted!! I think as long as they are fertile though I will only be getting better at hatching and I'm figuring out what works on my bator, plus I have a second bator for hatching. I will keep up dates!! Good luck to you!

Hi Y'all! I will be setting some shipped eggs on Saturday or Sunday. This is my FIRST hatch and i'm doing it all with Shipped eggs... call me a glutton for punishment!

I have on order:

6 Blue/Black Copper Marans
6 Jersey Giants (Blue/Black/Splash)
6 Olive Eggers if available (They quit laying right after I put in order so these may or may not ship)
6 Blue Isbars
12 Seramas!

So I have the biggest and smallest breeds in the same bator! It ought to be interesting to say the least!

Three different shipments being sent out Wednesday. Can't wait!!!

I'm in the same boat about silkies!!! I found free silkie hatching eggs last time and my silkie chicks are soooooo sweet and cuddly! I've fallen totally in love with them and decided I must have a silkie flock full of all the pretty colors... and it feeds my incubation addiction so that's a good reason too right?

That is the thing about the hatching addiction... there is always another chicken/ duck/ whatever to get excited about! I am hoping my 3 hatch... I had 2 quitters and a clear... so I may need to get more!!

I went and picked up my eggs today and I am thrilled! $8 for a dozen eggs! She has lots of colors so I am hoping for a good variety! I will put them in the incubator tonight!

Please count me in! I have 9 set on Oct. 15, due Nov 5. 4 Australorp x GLW, 5 Australorp x Barred Rock. Then I have another dozen set on Oct. 17, due Nov. 7. 5 Aus x GLW, 7 Aus x BR

This is only my second hatch. My first was a complete failure. A friend let me borrow her incubator and the temps in that thing swung so wildly. I had four eggs out of two dozen make it to lockdown, and they all died before pipping. One of them pipped internally and then stopped breathing seven hours later.

This time I've got them set in an aquarium that I outfitted with a heat bulb, two fans and two thermometers. That thing is solid.

I just sold 2 of my CCL pullets, 1 was 25 weeks and the other 17. They were GFFs A & B lines. What lines do you have? More than likely the A & B lines will not be called Creme Legbars in a few months time and may get a different name. Where are your eggs from? Since you plan on breeding, I would strongly suggest asking the source about the pedigree before you spend time hatching and then finding out they are not going to be "Creme" Legbars anymore. If you just plan to having beautiful birds with blue eggs, then it does not matter.

We are excited for you as well. Just wondering what whether zone you are in? And if you are in the North, what are your plans for brooding them especially once they feather out.

I absolutely love this chart, thanks for taking the time to put it all together. Could I suggest something maybe for next time?? A category for lockdown? Or is that too much going back for you? I was just thinking it would be nice to compare everyone's hatch rate based on the lockdown not just the setting to exclude infertile/bum eggs? Just a thought. Thanks again!!!
Let me see what I can do. Lockdown is a very good milestone, but then many people discard eggs after first candling as well. So I consider first candling as a better milestone for measuring hatch rates vs. lockdown. Because 1st candling has already discarded non-fertile eggs, so the remaining eggs should be counted towards fertile but not hatchable (if they don't hatch). What do you think?

Just another heads up - you aren't able to edit a post after it's two weeks old, so you may want to put the info in a google document instead and embed it in the first post. Then once you aren't able to edit the post anymore, you can still edit the google document.

I've only read one post before on an aquarium incubator. I'm really curious how your hatch will go! Someone was discounting them for humidity difficulties if I remember right. What do you use for humidity? Just curious. I built my first bator and it was really an interesting experience. Mine was the cheap Styrofoam style though.
