November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

I've got 13 in the LG that are due to hatch on Sat 11/15. Lost all of the ones I'd set last month, I think because of a faulty thermometer, lack of ventilation, and too much humidity early. Trying the dry incubation method this time, and have just added humidity for lockdown. Started with 16, lost one each candling session. My challenge is now that I've taken out the motor turning the eggs, the temp has dropped a degree or two. I'm hesitant to touch the temp control and so have put a towel over the windows (but not the vent holes) to keep it at 99 deg.

It should be fine! I'm having trouble with my bator that I use to hatch with, it was fine until I added the eggs and I can't seem to keep it below 101/102 and I like it at 99/100. Good luck!

So, like many places, we've had a sudden temperature and weather change. Last night the wind was blowing and it was well below freezing. I have my lockdown incubator on my nightstand by the bed and temp and humidity have been rock steady in it up until last night. I had a temp spike of 104 for about an hour or hour and a half and at one point it reached 106. I realized after I moved the incubator to my dresser on the other side of the room and away from the window that there was a draft coming through my window. My guess is that the breeze made the incubator thermometer think it was cooler in the bator than it was and kick the heat on. Not real sure on that but the temp has been perfect since I moved it. I'm really worried that all my eggs got fried from the temp spike though.

The RIR early hatcher had pipped before the spike and the silkie had hatched long before. Really hoping they're not the only 2 I will get out of the 10 eggs that were in there at the time.

Eggs heat up and cool down slowly so they are probably okay. I had a 106 spike once and everyone was fine... I hope yours are too!!

Any new babies this morning?
Just had my first duck hatch! All are pipped except one. I am a little in shock as day 28 is 11/15 and that I am certain of. Will post pics in a little, it is half black east Indies half buff all black except has little yellow eyebrows and yellow stripes down the side of the face w dark bill and legs. Think it is going to be gorgeous!

No. I candled the 4 remaining silkie eggs from the first batch. All dead. I opened them and they all looked perfectly formed, hadn't pipped at all yet. The RIR's aren't even 24 hours overdue yet so I'm letting them be but I'm worried they didn't survive either. It's possible the temp spike was longer than I thought. I thought I had checked the temp about half an hour before I noticed the temp spike but was cooking dinner and cleaning at the time so it might've been much longer than I thought.
