They are white oeg's
I too am REALLY sorry for your flock.. I know this puts a little more pressure/meaning to this hatch! Fingers Crossed for you!Is it too late to enter.
I am starting only 3 eggs. They are EE's I just placed them in the bator tonight. But, in this tiny bator they are supposed to take 24 hours before they are warm enough to start the count. They should hatch Nov. 20-21st.
This is all a experiment for me but i do hope they will hatch. The tiny bator is new just out of the box. I had recently watched a farm bulletin video on YouTube that said hens will still lay fertile eggs up to 13 days after the removal of the Roo. Coons got most of my flock 11 days ago including the Roo. One of my remaining pullits started laying the next day so i decided to try hatching them. These eggs were laid 6-9 days after the roo died. So they are 2-5 days old. They should just squeak in as hatch-able, fingers crossed.
I found this little GQF Chick Bator Mini Egg Incubator on ebay. I figure such a tiny incubator will keep a handle on the chicken math. And do it without breaking the bank. Its thin plastic, has a 7 watt light to heat the bator. The directions do say it should be used in a 70-75F room. My house is only 60-65 this time of year so as you can see i had to insulate to bator to heat it up enough to hatch eggs, and i expect to have to add more towels as it get colder.
I toss my clears on day 10, even when there is no doubt...lol I made the mistake of culling an egg I thought was a goner in my first hatch, that was actually still viable so now I'm overly cautious. My clears go on day 10 and I don't throw anything else out unless it's smelly, blood ringed or looking really really wonky.I too am REALLY sorry for your flock.. I know this puts a little more pressure/meaning to this hatch! Fingers Crossed for you!
YAy yay YAY for chicks!!!
Well today is Day 5 for me. I broke down and candled.
In the Octagon: out of 30 Set eggs (1 AA, 5 Isbars, 5 BCM, 5JerseyGiants,3 Olive Eggers and 12 Seramas) I have definite veining in 8 of them. 2 Isbars, 2 JG, 2 OE, and 2 Serama. I THINK I have one additional Serama that is blood ring. Never seen one before so hard to say at this point. I honestly cannot tell much about most of the BCM. The eggs are so dark its hard to see. So I may have a few more that become obvious on Day 7 when I candle again.
ONE of my Olive Eggers has the most BEAUTIFUL development... RIGHT where the air cell should be. The Aircell in one one side IN THE MIDDLE of the egg!!! What Am I supposed to do with this?!??!
IN the Styro Still Bator: I have 6 eggs set. 2 from my own hens (Silke/RIR/Delaware) mutts are doing great and set to hatch next Wednesday. From the 4 other shipped eggs (2 JG and 2 BCM) I have 1 JG and 1 BCM I think.
Hopefully things will become more evident on Saturday (day 7).... So do you guys throw out your clears? or hold on to them for a little longer just in case???
So far i have found that the little bulb thermometer that came with the bator was worthless. I didn't trust it to start with so i ice calibrated a thin cooking thermomitor that would fit through a hole provided in the lid. I soon found that the higher the temprature the further off the bulb thermometer got. I checked the bator in the middle of the night to find the calibrated one saying it way 103 and the bulb them pegged out over 135. A quick candle of one of the eggs showed it wasn't cooked so I choose to believe the meat thermometer.
