Oh not at all. I realised after I wrote it that I was harsher than I needed to be. I didn't mean it to come out that way, I'm just tired.

Sorry. I realise now that I asked for advice and then the first person that gave it to me got a book in return! I swear I wasn't trying to jump all over you about it, and I appreciate your input. By that point I had already jumped in with both feet anyway.

Just saying I don't trust myself to raise chicks to hatching without thinking every problem is my fault. I don't fault anyone for not wanting to assist or being hesitant to do so. It just either means that they're more confident with their incubation than I am or they're at peace with letting whatever happens, happen. Or maybe just more hesitant to interfere. Everyone just needs to do what suits them.

I'm glad your hatch is going well, and I hope they they're all out soon so you can worry less. It's an anxious time all around, hatching eggs. And thank you all for your support while you watch me make every mistake possible while on the quest for living chicks.

@Antiquity, I know you can go back and read through but, how the heck do you keep with all the posts?? I almost feel like a dunce over here. I spent more time in my laundry room with the door closed to keep the cats out. Now that there is cheeping going on I have to watch for sneaking kitty feet trying to barge in when I open the door. Im keeping myself very busy to keep from picking up peeps and letting my mi d wander. They are now in a brooder box as the Incubator was staying too warm and they were at the window trying to get away. I propped the lid up and they got too cold. Just keeping an eye on the temps and making sure they aren't huddling for warmth.

Fifteen chicks so far from 20 eggs. I have four more pips and one egg that has not done anything. Twelve of them are in the brooder while the other three are in the incubator with the remaining eggs. The australorp chicks are already super aggressive and keep pecking at the eyes of the other chicks. Sigh...why can't everyone just get along!?!?! They are super sweet when they are all sleeping.

Don't blame yourself for every thing that happens!! Some things are out of our control!!! Look, you got the little wonky GIRL out the other night. Pat yourself on the back for that success and acknowledge all we can do is try some things are beyond us!!!

I am keeping up with the posts but it is a struggle also. I reset my home page quite a few times during the day as the posts keep coming in.

Wow! I'm gone for a day and things blow up in here!!! Congrats on all the chicks!

I've been struggle with my loan Hatcher from my barnyard mutt eggs. It is three days old and just now starting to look fluffy. One foot has managed to correct itself..but the other is still folded over some. Tried chicken slippers and that just made it stressed and fall over and so I took them off. Finally starting to eat some. I have put the two older chicks I bought in with it and they are all getting along ok..not great but ok. Hopefully it will continue to get stronger
At east now it keeps one of his eyes open...the other he keeps closed . Can open it and looks normal, but just walk around and pecks around half blindly... sigh....

In other news the shipped eggs seem to be doing ok for now. Hard to tell for sure numbers because of the Marian eggs, but 10-15 eggs are developing on schedule.

Antiquity, please don't take offense that I kinda chuckled at your post. It is more of a chuckle of complete understanding.
I tried to do everything perfectly in tune with all I have read and been told about how to incubate eggs thinking it would improve my hatchrate on how I was raised doing it.
So far, all have died with this new to me method.
My current batch aren't in a real incubator at all. They are in an aquarium on a dry washcloth, without a drop of water, with the outdoor sensor from an atomic clock which tells a different temperature than the oven thermometer that is in there, too. I don't wash my hands just to touch them...which I do ALOT! I even moved them from SC to GA in a cold metal popcorn tin which kept them for most of the day in temp fluctuations...
I have accepted that they are all dead. Since then, I have been a terrible egg keeper by most people's standards, but haven't lost a single egg since! (Knock on wood.)(9 left from 16 when my carefulness went out the window. 9 out of those 9 have stepped up to the challenge of Mommy's tough love! LoL)
Before this outlook and behavior, even tho I was following everyone's advice and rules to the absolute best of my ability, I still blamed myself for every loss.

Nice to know I am not alone on that one.
The methods people use now are so different and more "controlled" than how we hatched them when I was little. I am enjoying candling them, but besides that, I think I will just stick to what worked for us back then.

The 16 chicks that have hatched so far. There are still four in the incubator that I don't think will make it. They all pipped but that was it. I should have taken the other chicks out of the incubator sooner. They were hopping all over and the remaining eggs were rolling around all over the place. I don't think the other chicks had much of a chance to zip. One of them seems pretty strong but I think the others have given up. I'm letting them rest now and will revist them in an hour. I wish I could turn off the fan in the incubator since I think it is just drying them out. Happy to have my 16 energetic chicks though!
