Cochins are funny colored when they are chicks because even the white ones have black on them when they are babies. Try going to Cackle website it will show what baby cochin bantams look like of different colors.

But bantie eggs explains alot about how to put so many in. I hear you have to have a different humidity for bantie eggs too because they are so fragile. Can one have too many eggs in one incubator cause problems with hatch? I've been reading up on so many books, even got the "chicken bible"!

Those are SO adorable! I am going through horrible chick fever & looks like it will remain that way for atleast another month

Glad someone is enjoying them! Btw, I haven't hatched many bantams, but they've always been mixed w/standards so don't fret

Yes. Eggs need really good ventilation in order to get correct oxygenation of the membranes. Crowding the incubator increases demand and blocks supply. While these tabletop incubators state how many eggs you can cram in there none of them work with high start rates if pushed even close to that limit. The hatch rate is even a lower number as more ventilation is needed by then. When using tabletops if I set 3 doz (absolute max for good results) and got a good start I'd fire up another bator for hatching and split the eggs between the 2 about a week out.

I went to cackle hatchery's website, but all of their black chicks have black beaks! Mine are yellow, with a black spot! Could they be black too? They didn't have any pics of mottleds, either.
