Now River Otter's Genetics 101

Whatever one wants to call posting several times with no replies and then locking a thread for a few hours.

Anyway, if someone really wants to get into horse genetics, I recommend starting with this book;

And if you want to get REALLY in-depth with it, this book is the definitive work. I was lucky enough to be able to borrow it from my breeding partner. You can find early editions cheaper, and while they don't have the very latest research, they are still very in depth. Your local library system might be able to find it, and if you are near a college with an animal science program, they will definitely have a copy, and a lot of colleges have programs that will let you access their libraries for cheap or free, although you may not be able to take the books from the library;

Oh my. I guess that's a good term then lol.

Great links!

@Overo Mare , I have to thank you, I learned something new today! Since I usually use the other lab, UC Davis was off my radar, but when you mentioned them, I thought to check and see what new things they offer and price check, since I have a mare that needs a color panel and you need parentage testing and a HWSD test to register Connemaras, and I learned about Camarillo Horses. I had never heard of them!

You talking about when I locked my thread?
I locked it because I figured a few pages were more then enough off topic chat.

Let’s bring this one back.

What color is this baby?

Looks like a bay, but foal coats can be weird, it will almost certainly not be that shade of bay. And it won't gray, or you'd see spectacles around the eyes.

Gray foal
See the light ring around his eye? They are born dark, and if they are black to gray, will be born black instead of mousy, then get more white hairs every time they shed.
