NPR story about black soldier flies

Oh neat! Do you breed them? I buy them all the time for my bearded dragon and she gobbles them up. I only breed mealworms because I don't know what I'd do if the flies got out somehow. Darkling beetles go nowhere, lol.
 
I use them to compost kitchen waste, I don't have any chickens.

Most people who raise BSF use open systems which are outdoors. In those systems the BSF adults are wild, and only visit the unit to lay eggs. BSF adults (winged stage) aren't pests and are rarely seen, even when you keep a large colony of the larvae.
