Nurses Post

Serious medical question... maybe someone on here knows, or can point me to where to find out. I'm not asking google the right way, or the right question, or something.

Last year my blood test said:
Cardiac Risk Profile
HDL Cholesterol 40-92 mg/dl (mine was 82, so within range)
LDL <99 mg/dl (mine was 137, so it was high)

This year, the ranges are given as
HDL Cholesterol 40-60 mg/dl (mine is 87, so now it's high)
LDL <129mg/dl (mine is an improved 116; high by last year's standard, but fine now)

Really, have they changed what the target range should be? Reason behind the changes?

Outside my area of expertise.
My default answer would be very cynical.

One more comment, and then I'll leave it be.

Hubby and I have told our doctor that we don't want to be on pills. (Hubby has one scrip that he needs for the rest of his life.) I told him I'd made some lifestyle changes to lower my TC and LDL; among them, losing 10 pounds.

He said a lot of people could be off a lot of meds if they lost some weight. He agrees with us not being on pills. I hope this guy is cloned before he retires; I gather he is becoming more and more rare.

As one cynic to another... tell me! :)
You can't sell pills to well people.
I don't like pills either but I will weigh the pros and cons.
I was on about 6 and am down to 3. A BP, gout and cholesterol. I ran out of the cholesterol pill and had trouble getting it refilled and that would have been fine.

I transfered to a new unit this week. I was suppose to go to a stepdown and be using EPIC electr. Medical records program.
The hospital doesn't go to EPIC until Oct. And I was put on a observation unit.
Was able to beg my way to a higher acuity 'respitory unit'.
This is posted in the break room.
