Nutritional Requirements - Ducks vs Chickens

Yes, but according to some people that is far too much protein because it's above 16%.

The thing to me is that I think the freak-out over too much protein causing Angel wing is overblown. One thing we absolutely positively know is that feeding bread and other high carbohydrate "junk" to waterfowl causes angel wing. The link between angel wing and protein is less concrete.

I'm honestly tired of seeing people bash on All Flock because it's too high in protein, but then go on and on about how you have to add this, that, and the other thing to another feed in order to give waterfowl the necessary other nutrition that they need.

The problem is no one understands that by adding to the 20% feed the intake is higher..If strictly fed only that feed and nothing else it should be fine..;)..
Confusions happen because the manufacturers base it on only using the feed.

My ducklings get 27% turkey starter and I have zero issues with angel wing. :idunno

Compare the vitamin E levels between the duck and chicken, then look at the Mazuri feed. According to one of my books, vitamin E deficiency is also suspected of causing angel wing.

Oh my, now do the same with manganese!

Here is what I have on angel wing:

I thought this was an interesting study:

I have always used Flock Raiser crumbles on lings and Mazuri Waterfowl Maintenance once they feather out. I have raised over 25 ducks this way without any Angel wing or leg issues from niacin. I switch to the Mazuri because it holds down the poo stink. I tried the Flock Raiser Pellets once because they are significantly cheaper. But boy did their poo stink. Since they like to sit on the front porch and watch us through the French doors, smell is worth the money to me. I also.like that it floats as they love it as a snack in the pool.

What basis do you have for that particular statement? I've found literally pages and pages of studies on Angel Wing.
I think what she meant was there is no one study that says conclusively that feeding too much protein, too little E, too little manganese, etc. causes angel wing.

There have definitely been studies that birds fed bread get angel wing. I found quite a number of those. Bread isn't particularly high in protein, it is high in carbohydrates. High caloric intake is linked to faster growth from what I've read, and that is definitely a factor in AW.

Bashing on All Flock and Flock Raiser because they're too high in protein doesn't make sense. The link between protein and AW is anecdotal, the link between bread and AW is pretty definitive.
