NY chicken lover!!!!

My husband sent me a lovely picture this morning of the snow he woke up to in Tully. Not a happy camper right now, all my plants are probably destroyed. My coop is getting shipped out this week and I really wanted to put it together this weekend and the chicks settled in it seeing as how big they are getting. Doesn't look like I'll be doing that anytime soon.

This is by far one of the strangest years. It was 90 Friday, today it's in the 40s. So annoying.

Hi!! I am new here, and am up in Carthage :)
We have 6 pullets from TSC, reds and yellows. We are new to raising chickens :)
Would love to meet someone who is near that could help me set up a great pen area for them?! I have a hutch that I am going to set up soon, and going to make a run for them, just looking for some guidance!! Thanks!!!

welcome!!!!

Well you are in NY and its Monday might all be gone by Wednesday and you can be back in shorts for the weekend ! It has been a weird year for sure. Luckily I am near the PA border and the snow missed me ! Just a lot of Rain last night ! I hope you get a warm dry spell and can get your coop up ! My Hubs is out building on my New one now .. It wont be Finished but I am hoping he gets it in closed enough to get my 11 Jersey Giants in tonight. they have been camping in a small travel cage since they have feathered and they are growing Fast need some room to stretch out !!

I Found a Farmer about 20 Miles from me selling Chicks on Craigs list in Ouaquaga NY Where I used to grow up so I gave him a call and checked him out . I hope to raise them and breed them my self now too .. But Mine are only about about 7 weeks old now .

Lost my silver laced Wyandotte rooster today....very strange, he was on his back, so I'm assuming it was a heart attack.

Now I am looking for replacement...

Do you have any young ones that you can finish growing out? Sorry for your loss.

No, he was my original roo, I just put him back in with his hens this morning after being away from them for 3 weeks. I guess they were too much for him...LOL the only other cockerel I have is not fertile....so I'm looking for a replacement.

I Think I know the answer to this, but I told Ray I would ask y'all.... Will 6 week old chicks survive the upcoming cold spell in a barn? I have no further information on the situation, but the developmentally delayed young man who is raising them is freaking out and the staff at the group home is asking Ray questions....which of course he can't answer, so he calls ME. LOL

I say "yes, they will be fine if there is no real draft on them". What say you?

Yes, if they have shavings to burrow down into, they should be ok.
