NY chicken lover!!!!

Featherz do you happen to know how much Agway charges for a 25lb bag of Chick Starter/Grower? I just went to CountryMax and I have a feeling thats the last time I'll shop there. Very pricey. I just paid $23.75 for a 25lb bag. And of course I go to TS website to see what the difference is in their brands and all the Dumor and Purina 50LB BAGS are only $15/$16 bucks! Should have went there! Owell, live and learn! LOL

AT my local store, I paid $15.50 yesterday for game bird started. I think their chick grower is about $13. Besides the Countrymax store this is the next closest to you that I could find. Can't be far from Tully.

So sorry. Can you explain "internal laying" or is that the kind of thing I should just look up myself. The gray and strawberry blond naked necks I got from you are growing quite well. Brought one back into school at 8 weeks. Children could hardly believe how much it had grown. She was very docile and sweet so the kids had a great time getting up close.

It's basically where the yolks go up into the abdomen instead of out the usual way. Peritonitis sets in, chicken doesn't do so well. I have another older hen with it as well, but she's in a dark-out cage now. Sometimes if you can limit daylight and stop laying you can improve the problem.

I am glad to hear the NN are doing well! How many boys did you end up with? :)

By the way. My chickens have enjoyed wandering around the backyard area; however, I noticed my one peony gone except for 5-6 shoots about 4 inches tall. The birds have not bothered other shrubs near the deck. I'm guessing that they were the culprits who ate the peony but I am surprised. Any one else have chickens that will eat peonies?

Well, crud. I was just out in the coop and found that two of the eggs due this Tuesday have been crushed, leaving two perfectly formed, dead 18-day baby chicks. My hen is a fat butt, so I wouldn't be surprised if she managed to step on them. There were no other eggs in there (the others don't dare go in - she's very dominant), so she's most likely the klutz responsible. The other five eggs have some yolk and goop on them, but I don't dare wash them and remove the bloom, especially not at this point. So, I picked off the nesting material stuck to the other ones, moved them to a new (and lower box), and stuck the broody back in on them, cursing roundly the entire time. We shall see what happens.

Ugh - if she was going to be a clumsy butt she could have done so, oh, I don't know, eighteen days ago or so. *bangs head off the wall*

oh no!! Poor chickies. =( My fat butt mama did that too this time around but I was lucky enough to be standing in the coop shortly after. I think my squashed chick was day 19 and thankfully I managed to save it but it was sheer luck.

My roo (Randy) didn't come back to the coop at the end of the day, so I went out looking for him. Ray found him laying on his back, in the sun, out back. He couldn't turn himself over. His neck problem has resurfaced recently and I Have no idea what the cause is. I picked him up and carried him to the house, fed him some baby vitamins (cuz that can't hurt), dripped some water down his throat and took him down to the coop. He was up and walking a short while later. Hopefully it was just heat, but with his history he probably isn't long for this world, I do know he chased the other roo all over kingdom come all day, so heat is a possibility.

I hope he makes it, cuz he is a good roo. BUT I do have a second roo, cuz the minute you are down to one roo, it drops dead of unknown causes. (which may be what happens to my roo, but I kept a back up roo, just in case)

I have an extra if you want =] He won reserve breed today at the SCPF show =]

Awww...thanks, but I have a back up roo....Ameruacana from Jean (pips&peeps)....and I have 5 eggs due to hatch tonight....If I lose Randy, I'll probably keep a roo from this hatch.
