I like the idea that it will treat inside and out. Can I still use it if I am having the hens lay to hatch some chicks? The animal specialist at my Agway is a total chicken love also, she suggested the DE as a method of worming. I was just wondering if it was little more natural. My flock does need to be wormed, especially before the colder months, so a bird with a little more weight for our brutal winter up up here on the mountain, sounds good. You can put de in with the food and I do but I am not so sure how good it is for worming. I use pour on ivermectin (eprinex) as it is much easier. Just a little squirt under the feathers high on the neck and you are done. No egg withdrawel and it works on everything inside and out. Initially I didnt want to do any kind of worming and didnt for the first year and a half but decided to as a preventative measure because we have so many wild birds and lots of earthworms. It seems to work well with no effects and like I said, I dont have to toss eggs. I have never seen any parasites of any kinds in or on my flock either before I started doing it or after. I think its a personal choice for each flockraiser. I find my girls are a little more efficient and put on a little more weight after having it done so who knows. I would say read everything you can, both pro and con, and make your own decision based on what you are seeing in your flock. I hope this helps.
