NY chicken lover!!!!

That's great! If I found someone to take my ducks I'd be thrilled. I'll be hanging around if you don't mind another!

We'd LOVE another. This thread really perks in the winter. Summer, it's a little slow. Of course, if you hang around you'll find yourself with more birds. We're carriers of Morehens disease (recently mutated to Morefowl Disease)

Stony, I saw your reply to my question, but can't find the post to reply to. Ooops.

So I have another month of feeding these slackers? LOL And I WANTED them to be outdoor/feral birds. They have other ideas.

If the chicks that just hatched are female, the Sumantras are gonna have to move outside. I just don't have the space and Ray refuses to build me another coop. (I am, however, looking for a free dog house to move some of the small birds into. I figure if he doesn't have to build it, he'll let me have it on the property. My name is not on the deed to the house I live in. Sigh)

Just got home and read through the thread. Rancher--you had dh and I roaring! Let me know how the whole church thing works out for you. I may have a couple of candidates myself!

Cass--you are so completely owned by your chickens...must defeat the dark side...

yup, probably another month. At least here that is how it works. I've also been looking for a free dog house. Never one close by when I am looking for one

I have a dog house that I was given by a friend. It is quite crude, unpainted heavy plywood. My plan was to get it home, sand, prime and paint it before my husband saw it. Unfortunately I had his truck and it was too heavy for me to get it out by myself. He was aghast at the looks of it and really did not want it in the yard. He couldn't see the possibilities it has. He drove the truck to the burn pile, and tossed it on. I think it has definite possibilities, so if anyone wants it, you can have it. I dont think it will be burned for a while. To keep the peace here I will not be using that dog house. It would be very cramped quarters for me.

I am looking for a good home for 1 male mallard and 2 young (sex unknown) rogue ducks.  The three are quite bonded and should stay together.
Otherwise, they have to go to auction, and I hate to think of what will become of them.
Canandaigua area.  I'd be willing to drive somewhat (maybe part way?) if it means a good home.

Hehe, I'm also trying to give away a duck on here. A rouen male, and maybe his pekin friend. I haven't had any takers, though!

In other news, look where the chickens decided they wanted to sleep tonight:

This makes two nights in a row. One more night, and I'll have to get a ladder and wrestle everybody back into the coop!

Hey guys, I'm considering ordering from Meyer Hatchery. Now, the minimum order to my area is 4 large fowl chicks, 6 bantam chicks, or 5 in a mixed order. I'm ordering because I want a sultan or two. Sooo, the question is - does anyone around glens falls want to split the order? Or farther out, if you want to drive over and meet me somewhere. I'm looking to get in on the August sixth or August 20th ship dates, if I do order, so that might limit you a bit. All I ask is that you pay for the chick(s) that you want and that you split shipping with me. I'm not gonna order if we don't get enough people to reach the order minimum, though. Although I figure five or six chicks probably won't be a stretch to get. Go ahead and send me a pm if you're interested :) The more people we get, the less it will cost us all! The august 20th ship date is gonna work best for me, but if you have a breed that will only ship on the sixth, I'll see what I can do.

One of my drakes must have gotten cheeky with my Marans hen, or got in her way. I saw her give his drake feather a good, hard tweak today while she scolded him.

Bratty duckeh.
I think I got lucky again with the four oldest chicks that are still in residence. They're nearly four months old now, and all of them appear to be pullets.

There do appear to be two and possibly three cockerels in the two youngest groups, but that's fine, as I wouldn't mind a backup roo, and my sister wants one as well (that reminds me that I have to sort out which chicks will eventually be going to her). If there are more boys than that, well, there's always Camp Crock-Pot!
