NY chicken lover!!!!

Does anyone need any Cayugas before I ship the extras to the Bath auction later this month? I think there is at least one pair, possibly multiple drakes. ;p I'd love to trade them for a different bloodline if anyone else has Cayugas.

I started making my coop today and it is not coming our the way I hoped. I need to make a nest box before I put the last side up, I have no idea where to begin. This is a smaller coop than my other one so the nest box has to "hang" out the side rather than being placed inside the coop. I'm so OCD when it comes to these things - everything has to be PERFECT and it's not so I'm getting frustrated. Of course my mom and dad are up to visit and they're helping here and there. What a project this is turning out to be. LOL

Where in Syracuse are you? I can help if you'd like. PM me if you're not to far. Otherwise pics of your project would help. Remember hens say, "Never give up, Never surrender".

The BLRW/SS cross I was pretty sure was a cockerel due to early comb and wattle development and late tail development has turned out to be a rather lovely pullet with an unmistakably feminine figure. I don't know if I have ANY boys. There's one Brahma cross in my youngest group who appears to be a male, but that looks like it. My sister's three birds are all pullets. My four oldest chicks here are all pullets, and are getting to point-of-lay. The middle three look like they're all girls, and at least two out of the youngest three are most likely to be girls as well. My chickens are pullet-producing machines! Good for eggs, not so hot for freezer camp! Captain Morgan is hopelessly outnumbered. He's very quiet all night now - he's probably exhausted from wrangling all those wives.

I have Rancher's eggs under two broodies now, as Lenore the Jersey Not-So-Giant has gone broody. Watch - all of those will be cockerels.

Now I don't know about that if they are my chickens eggs. I'm running pretty good. The last three EE's were pullets. I'm hoping for more blues. She's laying a nice blue egg. I've got more hens on eggs since they won't quit. It ought to be a busy fall and winter. I've a BR who is broody but I keep taking her eggs. I'm ready to say the heck with it and let her have some. I've an EE on three BM eggs and found one under a Sussex with three chicks and three eggs to go. One is pipping. The BM egg she had under her was fertile and started to go , so I tossed it out. Can't eat those. Yuk.

Wow...busy place. I wont be on for a bit. August has been a horrible month. First the accident my dh had and now my father passed away quite suddenly yesterday afternoon. I hate funerals, planning funerals and this whole business. I miss him terribly. Thanks for letting me share.

This may be long and some misspells but here goes. \\\

Went to the fair with DD and the Queen. Had a great time. She's such a good girl there was no fits. I have some pics but DD had them on her camera.

The queen wouldn't touch any animals but loved the petting zoo. She's familiar with cows and so when we went to see them she was fine., Until the calf mooed. Then she started crying and clung to mom for dear life.

She was funny making the animal sounds and of course loved the chickens.

We took her to the kiddies rides but she couldn't go on alone so Grampa when on with her. I was fine til the attendant came and put done the security bar. Lord have mercy I sucked it in as far as I could.

Still I had a great time. I'll post pics when I get them. The next ride was the carousel. That I could stand on.

We ate lots of food and the Queen did take a nap in the stroller. Everyone should have a grand child like her.

I bought some more soap from the Morning Mist Farm lady. I usually buy my years worth of soap from her. It doesn't seem to irritate my skin. I like the Pachoulli Oatmeal. She has a new website too, now, but shipping is $7 so it's good to get it at the fair. She also has some new soaps one of which is "Snips and Snails" I didn't get any cuz she sold out the first three or four days.

We have folks here at the Regional market who sell soap but they are more expensive and it doesn't have the fragrance like hers does.

I was surprised no one at the meet had soaps. Stay tuned for pics when I get them. DD doesn't have a computer so she has to down load them on mine.

(for those who were disappointed I didn't have a cane at the meet, you might be interested to know , I took a spill this am putting on my boots. Fell right on my knee and dumped scratch all over the floor. It hurts of course but will be fine. I don't like to mention these things nor take a cane as it draws attention. Something I'm not comfortable with. Pride is a terrible thing I guess.)
