Hi gals n guys. Went to the fair again adn took about 135 pics. Some good some not. Talked with John Peirce who's a member of the fingerlakes poultry club about showing. Someone talked of going to the fair to buy birds. Personally I wouldn't unless you've got space to quantine well away from your flock. Plus there are airborn illnesses you could bring back. Seems to me there are plenty of folks here who have whatever it is your looking for and probably healthier birds too.

I did learn the fair show is not like other shows as the fair authorities govern how things are run and judged. Some birds were removed but don't know why. Last year a bird was marked "dust" which I took to mean it had mites. YIKES! I'm not saying don't buy there but use extra cautiion.

John was very nice. He gave me the dates of shows in the state and which would be good shows. I don't have the paperwork here I left it in DW's car and she's at work. I'll try to remember to post them later. Personally if I go with what I've learned I'd bring some DE to dust whatever I buy and give them a dose of a kill all antibiotic just to be safe. But that's just me. To each his own.

I've only considered it cuz the fair had the worst Dels I've ever seen. My worst Del was better than the best there. Pitty sakes I'd rather give free hatching eggs than have anyone get disease. I haven't any guineas or silkies though. Don't like silkies and guineas are too noisey. I only breed Dels though at this time.

Here's a couple of pics.

I know you said you were interested in Buff orps. Looks like they still have them at Natureberry and they are about old enough to sex...I can bring some along to GVCM if you would like? They are down the road from me and I may pick some up for myself

So it would be no trouble...

well, thank you very much...but I think I need to take myself out of chicken buying for now. I now have 26! I needed to add to my hen to roo ratio and finally have a 1:6 which I am perfectly happy with. Especially since it's more like a 1:8 cause I have a cochin roo who is too stupid to figure out how to mount a lady so no ladies will even stand near him. I ended up getting 4 pullets (3 lt brahmas and 1 white langshan) at bath that day. Now I need to build a little stand to sell my eggs!

I am actually thinking about showing next year (If it's not too hectic). After seeing the cochins and the rocks at that show I think I have a few competitors! I really want to take my BR roo, but why do they hold the most local shows when they are molting? If my BR roo molts at the same time next year I won't be able to show him. Right now he has almost no tail feathers.

so, no buff orps for me right now. I am already scooping up twice the poo and dishing out twice the food! I really appreciate the thought though!

I will still be headed to the GVCM show/event hope to see you there!

Anyone been to the Yankee fall classic? Im going for the first time and wanted to know what to expect? Im looking on buying a few hens? do i bring something to put them in?are their alot to choose from? Im into the large breeds, maybe a big fuzzy butt cochin, or a jersey giant??? I'm in liverpool anyone around me?

I am going to but never been there before. I will be picking up a pair of gold sebrights. Hopefully not to many others. I am trying to limit the amount of money I bring with me. I have more than enough space for many more chickens. I live out by niagara falls so its going to be a long drive. I do assume that you need to bring containers but when I bought chickens at the local fair they did have boxes available. What I would really like to do is buy some hatching eggs while I am there. I want more bantam cochins.
