I just saw Natureberry farms is getting some Buffs and Black Australorps tomorrow, so if the craigslist thing does not work out that may be an option...

I copied this from their site:
We will have straight run Black Australorp and Buff Orpinton on or around 8/18 for $2 each. PLEASE NOTE THESE ARE STRAIGHT RUN AND OUR GUARANTEE FOR PULLETS WILL NOT APPLY TO THESE BIRDS.

I thought about it, I love my 2 Buffs and would like more, but don't think I want to do day old chicks until next spring...

Good luck!

I got all 6 of my girls from there. One did turn out to be a roo and they took him back no problem and gave me another pullet! I'm looking for some americanas or just EE's if anyone knows of any. Nature berry is out. I checked today.

Hello All!

Just wondering if anyone who has been to the fair noticed the Forage and Grain competition results? We entered hay and the judging was today, but we will not be able to get to see it until tomorrow.

I am new to the wonderful world of poultry... will people actually sell you chickens on the fair grounds? or do you just make contacts and arrangements later? I am really hoping to find someone to sell me some Jersey Giants

When we went last year, we basically asked around to find the owners and see if they wanted to sell. We ran into one guy who had the most birds there out of anybody. Watch out though, know what breed standards are cause we (ignorant about breeds at the time) assumed that since they were at a show that they were SQ birds. not the case...lots of folks had birds that did not qualify for the breed they listed them as due to substandard or wrong comb types.
They always have silkies for sale, you know the multi colored ones (but I would guess that would be during the bantam part?)

Hi from spencer NY. I have buff orpingtons, along with some mutt girls that seem to be broody all the time and two turkey hens Narra/royal plam mixes. I just got the two turkeys and they were laying after a month with thier man - put 6 of their eggs in the bator yesteday to see what comes out ;o}

Just got back from the fair today and I got to be honest, was not that impressed with the poultry show. Did not see many chickens there and alot of the breeds were not even showing. I didn't see any wyandottes, Ameraucanas, or Marans. Got to say that some of the BO roosters that I saw, I think the ones I got from TSC look better. That is an opinion of course, but anyway. Hope the show in Oct. is better.

I heard they were trading out the large fowl birds for the bantam birds this week. Maybe today was the day breeders needed to pick up their LF?

admhotel to be honest I wasn't that impressed with the birds at the state fair either. I went sunday. A few of them didn't look very healthy. Don't get me wrong it was very cool to see all the different breeds in person. And there were some very healthy very nice looking birds there. I was so close to bringing a guinea hen home! But I was afraid to bring home a disease to my girls. I felt bad for the slikies they dyed. lol
