NY chicken lover!!!!

Hope everyone enjoying the snow.

Started to hatch already so I have new layers before the fall next year. Got some Dels and an EE, but will be setting some friz and Ee's and some bantam brwon leghorns plus some more Dels, just in case anyone is interested. So if you decide to get a head start you know where you can go. I suppose by the time anyone is ready I'll be able to sex them.

Tab sorry to hear about your girl, try not to feel to bad it's the price we pay sometimes.

I'm fairly new to BYC and just discovered the New York Thread.

I'm in Vernon. I have Blue laced red Wyandottes, Marans, and Blue Wheaten AMeraucanas.

Plus, I just bought some Naragansette & Bourbon Red Turkeys for breeding. Hopefully I'll have eggs in the spring. The Narri hen has started to lay, but so far they are not fertile.

I have week old Freedon Rangers for the 1st time. I'm trying them out, although they will have to stay inside the barn the whole time, they should still be better than store bought.

Hi Sue, Vernon ain't to far from me. If there's anything I can do let me know. You only going to breed Turkeys or some breed of chickens? See cuz I like to keep a mixed flock so if you breed something other than Ee's and Dels we may be able to work out a trade for hathcing eggs or chicks. Just a thought to you and any others out there in NY.
I'm sure we can't all keep roosters of every breed we'd like to have in our flocks. Though I have to say I was not impressed by the laying abilities of the Wyandottes.

Well take care and stay in touch.

Sue, I didn't know the Turkeys you were raising were Red Bourbon. Hmmm...I may be interested in a few this spring. This begs the question...you said you are getting unfertilized turkey eggs...can you eat a turkey egg the way you can chicken and duck eggs? I want to think the answer is yes, but I just don't know. The 2 BCM girls I got from you are doing really well. They are as large as some of my OE roos that are a month older!

I bought a pair of Bourbon Reds. The hen hasn't laid any eggs yet, although she acts submissive, the tom hasn't gotten it yet, at least when I'm around.

I haven't eaten one because I've put them all in the incubator so far. They say you can eat them scrambled, but fried are like rubber....but good for baking like ducks eggs.

I do hope to have the pure Narragansestte & Bourbon Red poults for sale in the spring, as well as some eggs, after I hatch out what I want to keep. I've also got a BBB hen that is the one laying eggs, I hope the Narri tom breeds her so I'll have some mixed poults to raise for Thanksgiving.

Rancher...would you like some OE roos? They are 2.5 months old and free.

No thanks, I've got plenty of Del roos and a pair of rosecomb Brwn leghorn bantams posted on CL. I won them at the ALBC conference last month. She's laid a couple of eggs so far and they're going in the bator. Oh I do have a laveneder ameraucana for breeding to my EE's so they should produce some nice colored chicks.

Hi everyone!

Sue, I'm so glad you joined! I was out at ur place this summer and picked upblrw eggs! I had two hatch out and they are beautiful girls! I've also stuck with the whole grain feeding program and am seeing the results, beautiful feathers and birds with a nice size on them. I've also noticed much less waste with the food in general as opposed to feeding a typical layer formula. Plus, I feel really good about eating their eggs now that I know exactly what is going into them.
