NY chicken lover!!!!

I am once again owned by chickens.

11 bantam cochin hatched last week!

How I have missed having chickens.

Now I just need to get some layers and some meaties, but that's not until this spring. Unless the hubby finishes the coop before then, then I might get some more eggs to hatch out.

Rancher--I think you are just being cagey about wanting to get silkies. I have a great sense of humor and my guests tell me that I am less than human (in different vernacular that cant be repeated here as this is a family channel) and thats why I like chickens sometimes more than people! lol

Stony--really??? Some just take themselves too seriously. Life is short. Oh, having rir roosters gives me a great sense of humor as they are always doing something idiotic to impress the girls and end up looking like idiots! They always look around too, to see if anyone saw them! Love Olaf and Hane though.

Aria--glad you found some silkies and welcome to college break!

Adorava--hope all your cheeps are doing well. I have some very nice boys growing out if you need any. Good boys, not aggressive, follow me everywhere.

Got the 21 % egg production feed yesterday so we shall see how well everyone does on it. Gave the terrorists the rest of the turkey carcass today which made for happy cheeps. I will have to start making oatmeal with some other goodies thrown in for the other coops. Gave the older girls some meatloaf yesterday mixed with hardboiled eggs. They loved that. Hoping to get some freeranging in tomorrow after work. All work and no play is making chicken momma cranky. Sunday my youngest comes home from college. Hoping the week passes fast and the snow they call for is light!

agreed. Well I love my chickens..... but the ducks are the best. Even at a chickens most annoying time, like the Sumatra hen who runs in past me as I open the shop door to lay an egg, then YELLS at me cause I'm inMY shop...... they are still better company than many humans

. But the duckairs...... the best.

They are all doing great! Happy as can be in the barn now and they have turned into laying machines. Should have chicks coming out of our ears soon. I have a bunch of bratty boys in the growout pen as well.....Here is our winter set up. The girls want to be able to still play with the birds all day if the weather is bad.

You must have hit her silkie Nerve !

Chickens are funny ..They crack me up all the time .
She wanted some privacy ..LOL..
How long did she wait out there for you to come & open the door for her ..?
Maybe she was scolding you because she had been waiting forever to lay that egg .
this has become a daily ritual. sometimes she jumps in at 7am (like this morning) as the chicken food is in the shop. Last week it was late in the day. I open the door to go get a cup of coffee, she jumps in, hide (thinks she is hiding ) lays an egg, the wants to forage through sawdust in the shop in private

. 2 years ago I made the mistake of letting her go broody in there. Now it is "her" coop
