NY chicken lover!!!!

Actually it is slooowly going back in. Less than an inch remains. I can't stick it back in because (look away if you are eating dinner!) she has what appears to be gleet and it's scabby and nasty. Been applying antifungals and it's looking better each day. I am very surprised she's laid me two eggs - she's on the chicken equivalent of bread and water and only gets light a few hours a day (bath time!). I went out with my flashlight and looked at pretty much every other chicken butt and no other cases to be seen. I think she got it from her extended 'wanna be broody' period of sitting.

Yum Gleet! =)

Anyone gone to the albany drive through light thing in washington park? is it worth the drive and $15? We love to look at lights but checked out both saratoga and glens falls and not much to be seen anywhere.. =(
Lights are fabulous. Not sure they are worth $15 for 2 people, but if you can fill a van with kids, adults and Sr. Citizens then it is definately worth the money. At the end of the "drive" there is the lakehouse with Santa and other things to see, eat and buy. I try to go once every couple of years to see the new displays AND your entry fee helps support the PAL (Police Athletic League...that is run by Albany police for kids, to try and keep them off the streets) I wouldn't drive down from your house, but after you pick up hubby on Friday, grab a bite to eat and go see it. I don't think you'll be dissappointed.

Hi did I misunderstand your post ? I thought you meant henry doesnt mate enough ..so hes not a awesome rooster ..<- Are you talking about Oreo ?
I thought you were saying you wanted ( Henry )him to mate more ..as you are talking about him in the sentence before

I am saying he doesnt have to do it more than once a week to fertilize a week of eggs in a hen ..I was sticking up for Henry

Kale is a Treat ! Has anyone else noticed Kale is only 2.49 at Wegmans for a pound ..it is a lot of Kale .
I slice it some & mix in with their Fermented food ..sometimes I stick in while it is fermenting too .

My Roo did something funny today ..He was crowing in our woods ...all the girls were with him ..he almost never crows during the day ..
So I go outside to see what is the problemmm? the Girls were unconcerned ..I look around ..I listen . I swear I can hear something ?
that sounds like another Rooster crowing ..from where ?
Up the back road comes a older SUV ...it sounds very much like a Rooo Crowing ...
LOL So my Roo is competing with the car ..he thinks it is crowing..

Somebody in my 'hood has recently obtained a rooster. I think it's the guy down back who also keeps chickens. I heard one of my idiots crowing up a storm the other day, and went out to see what had him in a tizzy. He crowed, then stopped to listen - and an answering crow came from down towards the Other Chicken House, which explained his drama. There's also at least one across the road from me, so there are noisy boys all over the place here.

My Easter Egger pullet laid a pretty blue egg yesterday! Hooray for the fancy egg!

Tried to find nustock locally, but never was able to. TSC's out here don't have it. Don't mind ordering it online, but might not get here before she is healed. I was using raw honey until I figured out it is probably gleet and now I am using miconazole. I'll be giving her her bath shortly and we'll see if it's helping.

Prolapsed vent is very yucky. I had a hen that recovered last year, but this year it got worse and worse. Ended up dispatching her. She continued to lay eggs in the dark for a week.

Every year I say that I am going to the Washington park lights event, But I never go. If you do go , let me know if it is worth it!!
