NY chicken lover!!!!

I definitely need me some of those potty trained chickens!! Although then I'd probably have to set them up a separate septic. :p

yeah but the only other problem is teaching them to flush.

Rancher , they are visiting ? Show them the picture ...Tell them if a chicken can learn to use the toilet so can they ...Put the picture near the toilet to remind them ..LOL
A question ?
Why male pee to mark your territory ? I have seen female cats mark also . Wont human pee be a deterrent ? I do a perimeter walk around the edge of our property when I let the chickens
out ..To check for predators ...& leave my scent around ..so They know I have been there & may show up at any time .
I have seen or heard foxes since the last time I heard them barking in the middle of the night .
I went out & yelled at them " Get out of here ! You want me to come & get you ..And shined a flash light on them ..I could see their eyes reflecting in the distance .
So they know I am here ...& they are not welcome !

Country Boy- this must be the plainest chicken you have ? all the others are so colorful
As he is a chicken he probably did anoint the toilet ..

So you'r saying women are just as stinky as men? Foxes and Coyote are not in the feline family.

Fox is a common name for many species of omnivorous mammals belonging to the Canidae family. Foxes are small to medium-sized canids (slightly smaller than a medium-sized domestic dog), characterized by possessing a long narrow snout, and a bushy tail (or brush).

There's more that I could say but I'm a gentleman.

I have no other proof than not having seen a fox or coyote. While I have a friend who has lost many chickens to foxes and her DH shot and killed the coyote that came back for more. Very close to the house too. They have a field nearby but more house too.

If anybody would like a young cochin bantam rooster let me know. I'm trying to empty my cages as I'm setting my first batch of egg to kick off the 2013 hatching season next week. I need the extra space. If anybody is interested or knows somebody who may be let me know!!!
Here are 2 boys. I hate letting them go but I'm running out of room and have to many rooster fights.

Geronimo- This is the boy I went nuts to get and can't keep him any longer as my other boys will end up killing him. He is super sweet and would be awesome in a mille fleur project. I've only had him for 9 days but my breeding pens are set andits to late to swap boys. He has been in with my layers and is wonderful with them. He has never been in with a hen until I got him!! He would be great in a project or just in a backyard flock.

Sunshine Roo- I got him for his great type but have decided he could be one to go as I have to many of his sisters in my breeding program as it is. He is extremely friendly.

Edited to add this pair- my only keeper of the blue mottled boys this year Napoleon and his hen Jelly (carry mottled gene but don't show it). Photos of Jelly coming soon-(Napoleon is one of my favs but I have Roscoe who is black mottled)

My chickens will HATE me tomorrow. They have NEVER spent a day inside all day. If it eases up at all I will let them out for a bit, but it doesn't sound like it will. I added extra straw to the coop and built it up where the floor meets the wall to help any drafts. I don't mind letting them out in the snow, but not in heavy winds. Poor things would blow away.

My chicks did the same. It was too crazy outside here. Wind gusts were over 20 mph and the rain was insane. This is the first time I had to leave mine inside all day as well. They were very confused.

mine were out and about all day. During the heaviest rain the chickens went under tree's. The ducks on the other hand just looked up to the sky and quacked "bring it on!"

That's why I have covered runs. So they can at least get some fresh air.

I do have one coop with no run but plan to snow blow an area for them. If they wish to go out they can or just stay inside and look out the door. I'm sure I'll build a small run at least, on the back next year.

A covered run at least extends the floor space.

Wow... we must not be getting the same weather here today (Friday). It rained this morning and then turned to snow. Nothing heavy and nothing stuck. I'm sure it will change tomorrow, but we've lucked out so far! Chickens spent the day outside today.

Except last night (overnight) we had so much wind I was afraid the coop might blow over.
