I thought protein was the trick to egg laying. I'll try calcium tomorrow. I mix warm water with their mash to warm them up. They love it! Also thank you Cass! I've already learned a lot on here!

I will ask him and get back to you!Happyhens! I'm looking to get some Pekins and/or blue/black Swedish....would love to know if your friend will have ducklings, or hatching eggs!!
Also looking for a couple goslings for the spring.
The trick to egg laying is patience. While some treats will reduce production, others won't....the same treat that stops my flock from laying might encourage your flock to start laying....depends on breed. Chickens who don't have enough calcium might lay poruous or shell-less eggs....or maybe won't lay at all. Light. Some breeds lay all winter regardless of the amount of light, others you must suppliment their light to a full 12 hours a day or they won't lay. (Some breeds it takes 1 - 2 weeks of extra light to get them to lay, some 2 -3 days..) Have I meantioned that patience is the trick to getting hens to lay? Cuz for everything *I* tell you, someone else will tell you that their flock doesn't require what I am saying. Give them fresh unfrozen water, good feed and wait. They will lay eggs when they are good and gosh darn ready to.I thought protein was the trick to egg laying. I'll try calcium tomorrow. I mix warm water with their mash to warm them up. They love it!
