NY chicken lover!!!!

You're kidding?!  Already?!  Virile fella, huh?

Can I ask a question?  Keep in mind, I'm clueless!

What would happen, if after a day, the pipped eggs are not making any progress and you "helped" ?  Is this dangerous to the chicks?  I am guessing it is, or else more people would try to "help".  Just curious, though...   Thanks.

Oh yes, he started last night! A few of the hens disagreed and there were a few tiffs but most didn't seem to mind. The white roosters a big chicken! Hehe. He hides in the corner away from everyone and I have yet to see him eat or drink, hopefully he gets used to it here soon. One another note 4/5 eggs are now pipped and peeping like crazy. I've read that helping is a big no no but it is very tempting. Especially with the Marans knowing they have a hard time :/ it's wait and see. Well back to staring into my incubator for a few hours ;)

I figure the post master will get stuck on this job..he is probably on salary ..
USPS also uses UPS to ship the packages ..which adds to the banged up factor ..UPS then USPS more handling more box damage .
Some of the packages Ive got from UPS barely made it in 1 piece..

As far as I know the USPS doesn't contract out for it's Priority mail. The PO has always done this with rural deliveries. I could of course look through my research papers. I saved them because I got A's.

I plan to show them to my grandkids when they think Grampa doesn't know anything.

What you need to understand is that the Station managers do little work and supervisors do even less. They are glorified baby sitters. At least here in Syracuse. They will most likely have carriers come in and deliver the packages while they sit and do nothing. This has been my observation.

Now if they were smart they would reduce staff and have just a few carriers come in and deliver packages for the entire zip code area. There are usually not many priority packages.

Quote: obviously the big chicken...is a little freaked out ..hence the one flew out of the nest routine ..
Hes never seen so many hens ..maybe a little overwhelming ? Maybe the rooster was really attached to the previous owner ?

I read somewhere a while back some one said with Marans that it was better to do a dryer hatch ..Too much moister ..
they could drown .
I think most people assume that if the chick is not able to do it themselves there is something wrong with it ..
And if they help it it dies anyway

Quote: packages / flys on UPS planes ..around the US . I have seen UPs deliver packages to the post office before . I asked the Post master about it .
They pick them up & drop them off at the local PO ..The Post office / carrier does the rural route delivery .
I dont know much about the Big city Post offices how they run .
I go to the Post offices in little towns ..Like Jordan . or Memphis or Warners ..They have 1 - 3 carriers ..The post master is the one who does the service desk for packages mail , Phone calls,
Pickup from the counter or po boxes if it is too big . He loads boxes into bins to go on the truck Or helps the mail carrier load his mail vehicle.. He is usually ..Pretty busy .
If a carrier is sick he has been known to deliver his / her mail on his lunch hour . <- My Jordan Post Master he does a good job & works Hard

exactly how it works here at our rural PO. UPS delivers packages to the PO. My local postmaster Laurie does a fantastic job here. She and I have become good friends. And I occasionally build furniture for her and her husband Jeff ho dabble in real estate. When I asked her about some of our local post offices closing, but not ours she said many of the local small post offices in our area don't even average $50 a day in transactions. It is REALLY easy to see how those post offices need to close. In a small post office with 3 people that doesn't even pay 1 persons daily salary, never mind the electricity and heat.

Got down to the barn and found Miss Frizz dead in the nest box. She always overnighted in the box instead of the roost. It looked like her neck was broke and when I went to take her out her foot was partly stuck under the divider between the nest holes. There was a slight gap and she must have got her toes stuck then panicked.

Poor things...Both you and miss Frizz

Tab---sorry to hear about Miss Frizz. Its always tough to lose one. My condolences.

Well my eggs made it to tennesse and only two broke so I figure I did a pretty good job with packing and such. The lady was happy so I am happy. The cheeps were happily freeranging when I got home and the snow that is falling is not really bothering them all that much. I think they are just happy to be out. I have found a home for all 7 of my divas come april. A lady at work wants them for pets. Her son is beefing up the run and coop in preparation for them. She doesnt care if they lay eggs or not, she just wants them for pets. I think dh is happy cause I was going to can them and put the newbies in that coop. Now I will just hatch out some of ours and can them when they get big enough. The divas are our first cheeps and all have names and personalities. My friend is happy to be getting chickens again.

Another creation at work...blueberry cobbler this time. Soooooo good! Yes, I did do other things than just create a new drink. I bet you thought that all I did was make drinks and create drinks didnt you? Nope, I do lots more. And thats just my second job. I also did my first job this afternoon as well. Doubles can be a real killer and the doctors were ringing the phones off the hook and sitting on their computers sending out massive numbers of scripts. Seems everyone needed something last minute.
