NY chicken lover!!!!

This is a BEAUTIFUL picture!! I've seen a fox once around here, never saw him (or her) again.

Cooped Up Chick ~

My cheeps have been doing just fine this winter. As a matter of fact I even chicks out there that I decided to move outdoors when they were about a month old and we were getting some warmer weather. So they have adjusted to the colder weather now and the stronger winds. They've been cooped up quite a bit which isn't making them or any of the others too happy but they'll be out free ranging again soon. (As soon as it stops snowing!)

Thank you Lynzi -- and good luck with your April ducklings! You'll need to be extra nice to your hubby.

Thanks, vmd. Did you always have the netting or did you have a different pen set up initially and then beefed things up?

Initially I had a fence with 2"X4" horse fencing with electric guard wires. I still have it. I use it as a breeding pen or emergency shelter if I need it, like when Sandy came and one tractor and fencing was under a bunch of trees. During the summer I use large tractors and move the electric netting around. The electric poultry netting is excellent!

Hi all, just joined today, and find wowie! 1700+ pages of posts from NYer's. Needless to say I did not read them all

I saw several posters who live in my general vicinity. I'm near Oswego and Fulton. I would LOVE to hear how you all deal with our winter winds, (constant, cold, blustery lol) and have plenty of draft free ventilation for your coops? I am in the hunt for coop plans currently. I mentioned that same thing in my (long

) intro post also.

Welcome to the insanity.

No doubt you'll find many enablers for your coming addiction.

Question for you all.

I want to sell my chicks after they hatch, since I can't keep them. Do I need to get any special permits or anything of the sorts to do this, or can I just put them on here and craigslist and hope they sell? I just want to make my money back on the eggs...so I can get more eggs and make it a wonderful cycle :)

You don't need a permit.
