I was totally doing a happy dance this morning! Got a bullet between the eyes.

Setting the traps the rest of the week in case it has a mate nearby.

Congrats on the catch & Kill ..
Cass is going to have New Chicks in May .
She probably has a few extra ..LOL

So my horse fencing isnt safe from weasels ?
Maybe it would have been good to keep the stray cat ..
He was a hunter ..My son took him to his apartment ..To live the good life ...
I still have one cat he sleeps in at night ...with me ...

I want to help these girls so bad :( Is no one willing to pick a few up for me? I'm sure with all of us here we could get them up here to me without anyone having to drive too far...

I wish I could :( it's a 2 1/2 hour drive from me unfortunately I don't have the time. :(

Are they still selling them for $3 a bird? I would go get a few if they were free, but I am not going to pay for the privilege of saving a hen from death. I do like Chicken Noodle soup and that's probably where they are headed.

I finally went and looked at this ad today to see how far the location was from me (It's about an hour and 20 min drive for me) to see if I could help out but don't understand the "saving" part of this ad if they are asking $3 a bird.

Hey! I just joined as well and I'm in the lovely little town of Mexico

I've just got my first little flock of chickies, 10 Red sex links, 2 bantams (from the TSC bantam bin lol..) and 2 Amerarcauna's, 2 Black Australorps and 2 Speckled Sussex from Deaton's in fulton. I must say... they are addicting! Our girls are only a week old so I have some time to get our coop ready (a rehabbed outbuilding/old house) but man... this snow... it really needs to GO AWAY! Lovely to meet you all! Perhaps when the weather warms we could meet and brainstorm chicky ideas :)

Welcome to the upstate NY thread on byc. We do try to have a chicken get together once a year. There has been some great ideas on where to have it but I don't think that there has been any definite location yet. Again welcome!!

Welcome! I'm excited I'm not the only "Mexican" anymore! Sounds like a good start up flock. This time next year I'm sure your numbers will triple ;) Enjoy your chickies, they grow so fast!

It's because all the ones they don't sell are going to be shipped off to Canada and slaughtered after (they even sort of say so in their ad). Poor girls spent their whole lives in cages and I'd like to give three or four the opportunity to live like real chickens. I'd definitely pay anyone back who went and got a few for me - I wouldn't make someone else pay for birds for me. According to the ad they're even still laying. But four and half hours is just too far for me. Sigh.
