NY chicken lover!!!!

I have a evil White Leghorn Roo that is gonna make the pot very soon.. He is mean and will just as soon attack you then even look at you... He is teaching bad manners to a Buff Orp roo who is now showing the same temperment as him.. Is that possible? Our other roos are pretty nice and laid back as expected

I had a little talk with my hens today about what happens to free loaders! Haha. 10-13 eggs per day out of 30 hens kinda stinks

I realize some of them are over 4 years old but 22 of them are only 1, and they are leghorns! Hopefully they got my drift

Are they getting enough calcium ? We give our chickens layer & save the egg shells from the eggs we use ...in the frig till we get a bunch
Microwave them & Food process them into small pieces & mix them in with their food .
As with the light increasing they should be laying more ..
Is it possible they are hiding them in a nest somewhere ?

Just so you know, the crop is not centered on a chick or an adult, but it's especially obvious on a chick. The crop hangs to the right of the bird's trachea/neck.

This photo is of a parrot, but because the bird is naked, it clearly demonstrates the location of the crop. It is not centered, and on a chick it will bulge out to the side quite a bit! Sometimes it will be so full that the skin shows between feathers/fluff. This is not in of itself a cause for concern.

This thread has photos of a chick with a very full, but normal, crop. The danger is of course if it will not pass naturally. The best time to check is in the morning before they've eaten.. if it's still huge it may be impacted.

ok i feed them chick starter food only. The chick eats drinks and pooed two times that i'm aware of yeasterday. Morning one was softer night poo was harder. I have probiotics in water added apple vineger anti biotic to the water also. I tryed to get some olive oil in her noluck. Won't eat yogart eather.i had wife take food out at 6pm last night i checked her at 12 when i got home still massive soft chest/ right shoulderish area. I also have poly vi sol in water wasn't sure if i put there ot try to get down throat. So i figured water safer. I just built a new brooder right before work so when i get home will be moving her to old smaller one. I think she eats the pine shaveings can i take them out and put a towl down instead?

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Yes on the towels. I have started using paper towels under my chicks for the first couple of weeks. Easy to spot if someone is "infected" with something I don't like. Easy to clean, just line the brooder with multiple layers of paper towels and lift off the top one as it becomes soiled. Eventually they start to scratch them up too much so I start to add shavings, but by then they KNOW food and don't seem to eat the shavings. Other people have reported using old bath towels and washing them separate from family clothing with bleach for sanitation reasons. If your chicks are like ones I have had they aren't snuggling in the shavings anyway, they are all in a heap in the corner near the heat source, so they won't even notice that the shavings are missing.

Ok, chicken anatomy question for you long-timer chicken owning folk: I'm starting to question my 2 roo, 2 hen Ancona theory. We have been getting 3 eggs that are white or creamy colored. At first I thought that the orps eggs have gotten pale, but don't think so anymore. The two 'hens' have small combs, similar to a Hamburg, and I have seen them in the nest box. One of the "Roos" has a tall straight comb, the other "roo" has a large flopped over comb. Neither has spurs. I've never seen them crow, attempt to breed(as boy or girl), but also never seen them in a nest box. These are not hatchery birds. Ideas?
I should add the 2 GLW boys are boss, so thought maybe that suppressed the Ancona's boy urges.
