NY chicken lover!!!!

I think the air cell in my eggs are a little too big and it's only day 9...should I raise the humidity? I've been trying the dry hatch method and my humidity generally runs between 30 and 35% the air cells look closer to how they should on day 14.
Also, the 11 eggs I got from a lady at work were not fertile...I should probably let her know that her rooster is not doing his ahem "job"

The good news is the 13 of my own eggs that got put into the bator are all fertile and growing, a few even had some movement! I think this means extra treats for Ethan tonight.
If the air cells are too big for the day, add some water, & keep an eye on them. Its been cold, if your heat has been on a lot lately, they could be too dry. Its a learning process.

Oh sure blame the male. Maybe if her females wasn't so high strung they might get some. Or her hens could have genetic disorders and not adding they're chroma zones. Or they live with silkies and the mars dust from the silkies made all the chickens sterile. That roo could be doing all he can and it might not even be his fault. Poor roo getting judged by people who don't even know him. Lol. Sorry bored so am amusing myself.
Sorry but it is always the males fault, it's okay to admit it, it will be okay

Called around to the local TSC:
Cortland - white leghorn, red sex link, barred rock
Ithaca - red sex link, buff brahma, tetra tints
Vestal - tetra tints, red sex link, barred rock, white leghorn
Norwich - white leghorn
Ithaca Agway has Golden Comets today, getting in RIR and Black Australorp on Thursday. Chicks are $2.50 each.

Does anyone know what the East Syracuse TS has? Also, has anyone ever purchased silkies from TS? Are they always white? Do they ever get colored ones in?

I've gotten 4 from ts. Only problem was first two was leghorns miss labeled and I didn't know better. But the two that I have are white. I was hopping would change colors but looking like they going to stay white. I like the black ones or the black/ white mixed some one posted before.

Haha. I agree :)
I'm having the same problem with the air cells. My humidity is only 35%, I can't seem to get it up higher. I don't have much room to put dishes or sponges in with the egg turner :/ I read that low humidity is less dangerous than too high so I'm just hoping for the best.

Well out of my three silkie chicks, the oldest is a roo. He's up for grabs if anyone wants him. His father is a lavender split blue and mom is a white.

Here is a pic. I would be willing to let him go with his sister if someone is looking for a pair.

Blzzrdqueen - checked out your live cam (which by the way is very cool! Thanks for sharing your first hatch experience w/us) this morning. That little chick is so cute! You must be so excited!

I am, I have three out now, another is assisted and resting til he breaks out of his inner membrane, and 4 pips...2 pips should start zipping soon...

That's better looking than how I think mine is going to look. I would take but wife is already about to chop off my head. I told the kids I'm trying to get more chicks and she wasn't too happy. All I heard was " you ain't blah. Blah. Blah." Lol
