NY chicken lover!!!!

I think the air cell in my eggs are a little too big and it's only day 9...should I raise the humidity? I've been trying the dry hatch method and my humidity generally runs between 30 and 35% the air cells look closer to how they should on day 14.
Also, the 11 eggs I got from a lady at work were not fertile...I should probably let her know that her rooster is not doing his ahem "job"

The good news is the 13 of my own eggs that got put into the bator are all fertile and growing, a few even had some movement! I think this means extra treats for Ethan tonight.
Ethan is your Roo ?

By the size of it I would say it was a juvenile and it didn't move like it was drunk. Another possibility is that the woman that lives down the road released it. She does wildlife rehabilitation, but she doesn't drive them very far away when she releases. I thought there was dregulations about that.
You are not allowed to rehab Raccoons. I have neighbors that are rehabbers, and it is against the law to rehab a possible carrier of rabies.

Ugh! Just had another (bigger) hawk try to swoop down and attack my silkies! A friend of mine was over with her kids and as we were standing in the kitchen talking about the chickens we see two of the adults fly towards my side porch. So I went out there to see what happened and two crows were in the sky chasing this huge hawk away. Luckily no one was hurt. They all made it back up to the coop and stayed there for a while. Stinks that I'm gonna have to be more careful as to when to let them out to free range. They love being out of their coop and start getting loud when they are all cooped up for long periods of time. Guess they'll only be allowed out when someone is out there with them.

That is very frustrating. Mine have been on limited free range time lately because of hawks. I've been seeing them all over the place. It's a good thing I have a lot of stuff to get done outside. Not to mention the dogs are pretty good at making sure everything is okay. If the chickens make a noise the boys aren't used to the dogs are right back by the fence in a second. They have saved a chickens from a possible fox attack before.

Don't worry about the air cells. I'm sure things will be fine. I ran 20's throughout. Today is day 20 and there are 3 chicks hatched so far. I started to raise it up on day 18 to 30's then 40's and then 50's.

I wish you well,

Rancher
