NY chicken lover!!!!

I like our little community here.   I like the fact  (and participate in) that people on this thread take the time to type out answers for newbies, even tho it has been said 55 times earlier in the thread instead of admonishing new people to "use the search feature".  Folks on here, who know how to use the search, even find the previously posted and put a link in their reply for the newbie.  I type fast and hate waiting for searches, so I just type it out again.  Everyone has their own way of helping and no one gets snarky.  I like the support we give each other for non-chicken related events happening in each other's lives.

Agree with everything you state here! :)

We got a visit from a state trooper last night. Doorbell rang around 10:30. Our neighbor's house was broken into yesterday. They took some jewelry and nothing else. They obviously knew exactly what they were after. They left everything else. Scary because we normally leave our doors unlocked. They are looking into people why may be familiar with their house.
That kind of thing just doesn't happen in this area.

We need more guard chickens.
That's awful for you & your neighbors. Several years ago that was happening uo here where I live. The culprits skipped the houses with dogs in them..................... so I was safe. On a lighter note, I can lend you my "protection "

Thanks stony. Guess I will have to wait and see what happens. They are all going on a year old now so its just weird that we are getting these eggs. At least its not interfering with my egg customers needs.

Love the rottie pic and a great deterent they are. My lab always looked and sounded fierce but if someone had actually broken into our house, I believe he would have helped them carry stuff out for a pet and a biscuit!

Love this thread as well. Only one I read. Doesnt matter what is said and shared, its just nice to have likeminded people to talk to.

Sorry about your car rancher. Oh---I finished the blanket and started a sweater. Good hobby to have.

You do not need money to have fun. There is a fiber/yarn thing going on at Beaver Lake today. But I understand broke. Car repair $875.
I know that feeling very well. I hit a stopsign recently when we had the random 8 inches of snow about 2 weeks ago. Lost brake ability and just had to wait until I stopped. Stupid Electronic Stability Control. My Fiancee still has 1.5 years of payments on the car.

Sorry about your car Rancher and the breakin Chickprincess. That's terrible...it never ceases to amaze me the things that people will do for money. Luckily we have our two "fierce" guard dogs here. They sound scary but like most people I think if somebody broke in they would be the first to roll over for belly rubs. I think my roosters would do a better job attacking.

On a lighter note, one of my eggs hatched last night

I guess this means I can't put any eggs under my broody now, so I'm forced into putting a couple chicks under her, or leaving her be...I count another 5 pips right now, so I need to find something to do to distract myself from staring at the incubator and listening to the peeping coming from it. Maybe I'll go clean the coop today, I just wish the weather was nicer...

Sorry for this terrible picture but it's my first baby so I need to share

I hope everyone has a good day! Feel better Tab!

Have a couple of pics of my county boy chicks (that does sound weird!!). Will take better ones later - had to get a few pics of ones that I thought were roos for nooknook, who wants a baby cochin roo. I just thought this one was cute even if it is grainy. :) Planning to get more later when the light is better.

Little alien banty chick:

check out those lil wattles!

Cute! How old is he? I can't take on another chicken right now but I love the cochins! (I have one)

Love this pic! I love large dogs also, but will never own another one. The poops are bigger than my dog. We have a 15 pound ankle biter. I dare anyone to try to run past him uninvited.

Cass, what a beautiful and true post! I agree we are quite supportive and a friendly bunch. I think people just want to be heard and respected, even if they may not have all the answers. We manage to disagree without being mean, and there are so many different opinions on every subject, and all is worthy of consideration. I too really appreciate this thread, and all of you. I've learned a lot here. The Southern NY thread is very nice too.

My roo, Reveille is scheduled to go to his new home tomorrow sometime. So he isn't lonely I'm sending two of my original RIR girls with him. They are less than two and can still lay for a good while, I would think. Their new home may be an elderly camper converted to a coop. I hope to see pix when it is done, but I will be happy to have less crowing contests between Earl outside and in the coop and Revie in the garage! One of the main duties they will have in their new home is the production of manure. I am sure they are very capable of that!
