oh, please tell them! They can so take it! Come on guys go for it!

Well i can't say that Greenfire doesn't have nice birds but very expensive for me to go into alone. DO YOU KNOW IF THEIR PRICES INCLUDE SHIPPING?

Now I've found her in the nest again I may have to move her to the other side with all the boys for a day to break her. Unless you've got something you want hatched.

I'm getting ready to give chicks away again or at least sell them cheap.

On a sad note we found Momma (a little white banty and the only hen we've had go broody) dead in the coop this morning. She was as healthy as could be eating and drinking no signs of sickness. I just don't get it. I'll miss her.

That is the problem with chickens, they just up & die.

I got a phone call from Skip who I gave my Wheaten Marans to last October. He said the rooster was breeding the hens the day before, and he found him dead the next morning, no warning. I think when its like that its a heart attach....or he was just to sexy for his own good the day before!

Trylin , had the same thing happen with a CM roo I gave her. Nice boy just up and died. Had this happen with a couple of hens. Fine in the morning dead in the afternoon.

Knowing all this it doesn't make it easier, though. I am sorry for your loss.

F2's are in the incubator right now. Did a test hatch no LW's but it was only of of 8 eggs. I have close to 2 dozen in now. Fingers crossed.

Yes, but I believe they are hatchery birds resold.

Nature Berry Farm is a nice place. They are very nice and do have many types of birds there they they breed themselves. They also get many from hatcheries. I got some "Ameraucanas" from them last year. I should have known they were not purebred when he said, some have muffs and beards and some don't. These were Easter Eggers, they do lay a nice light green egg, almost blue. Many of their birds come from a hatchery and since they order in large quantities, that is why if you only want a few, and don't mind hatchery birds, you could get them from there relatively cheaper. I do have purebred Ameraucanas from the John Blemn line and they look and act much differently, plus their eggs are a gorgeous blue.

Hi, I am relatively new to writing on here. I enjoy reading the posts. I am excited - one of my Silkies is going broody so I will be able to put some eggs under her soon. I plan on trying to hatch out some Black Ameraucanas this Spring. The hens are from John Blehm's line and they are Black. The rooster is from another breeder who was trying out a Lavender Split. Any ideas what my hatch will be? I know the Splash coloring: 25% blue, 25% Splash and 50% Black but I haven't ever heard about what happens with the Split mixed with pure Black.

Please understand that hatchery chicks are fine as long as one understands what they are getting. I have some hatchery girls and they are fine, but if one is looking for purebred stock they should look elsewhere. I don't know anything about splits but hope all works well for youu

Split Lavs will for all accounts appear black. Bred back to Black will not yield Lav offspring. You would do well to get another Split Lav to breed back to your Split Lav. Or get a pure Lav Ameraucana to breed back to your Split Lav. If you are looking to breed for the Lavender color in your flock, it will take a long while breeding for pure Lavs if you only work with what you currently have...but it can be done.
