NY chicken lover!!!!

Pallet shed that went up in 2011. I'm breaking apart other pallets to make slat walls, or a sane person might just buy plywood for it.

I would buy the plywood to use for nailing to the pallets for walls. I just made a wine rack that was cut off from a pallet and I tried taking the other pieces apart to use the wood from those - no way could I get those pieces apart! I have no muscles! LOL I want the pallets just to get my "structure" started. But I think I've decided to go back to separating my coops and letting the ducks have the smaller coop since there will only be 3 of them and the silkies having the bigger coop. That smaller one is just oddly made and I hate cleaning it because it's such a pain in the neck to get in there and clean the actual coop out. (Not sure why I let my husband pick that one out for me!)

My poor little babies overnight...
The ENTIRE 1 gallon waterer leaked overnight and waterlogged their substrate. All 18 were sitting in a puddle this morning (not just damp, a PUDDLE). They all seem to be okay though.
I thought this was going in the other direction until I read "They all seem to be ok though" Glad they were ok!

I hate waking up to my job calling...

Them:"Hey, you know that new guy that the store manager was raving about last week?"
me: "... yeah..."
Them:"He did a no call no show, you need to come into work."
me: "*grumble grumble, Horses, Grumble grumble Chickens..."
Them:"I know, but you're off tomorrow so come in today!"

Yes, because I can just not feed the animals today... *sigh*

We had ducks for 15 years. NEVER AGAIN. We had
Show Call Ducks and they were a lot of work. We had to
drive them in and out and they were DIRTY. And we have
a pond.

We now have Silkie Chickens and we love them. They go
in and out by themselves and they are much less work.
And they give us organic eggs and are much cleaner.

No Ducks here. Regards, Aria

I have Runners and Pekins. No driving in or out. Not dirty. And I don't have a pond.
I have roughly 100 chickens as well. I prefer the ducks honestly. Less work, more pleasure, bigger and and sometimes more eggs.

I guess it varies greatly on the breed of duck. I let mine out, feed them and let them in. Once a week muck out the coop and top it off with fresh shavings. Easy peasy.

38F and snow flurries earlier. Is anyone else going genuinely mental??

Sigh..........................the good weather keeps getting put out there in the forecast. It's getting hard to wait anymore.

Coop construction continues, regardless! Come rain, come snow, come sleet or freezing rain...just like the postman.

I'm beginning to wonder IF it really is the breed of duck you have because all the posts I read about people who have them love them or hate them - there's no in between. Guess I'll have to add my thoughts after I get my 3 - which by the way I'm growing very impatient with. I thought I was going to have them last week sometime seeing as how I was asked when I would like them for and I said the 2nd week of April. At this point I don't even know if they were ordered yet!

I was about to come on and post about the snow but thought people would think I was crazy. LOL Glad I'm not the only one who was seeing it! LOL

I've been searching around everywhere and emailing people for prices for custom made coops. I have two that I ordered online that are still in great condition but I'd like one bigger one that I can keep all the silkies I'll have (5 total after I weed out which chicks I want to keep) plus the two orpingtons. Right now I've taken the two coops plus the run and merged them all together only the coop on the right cannot attach and remain open to all so it's closed until the ducks arrive.

It's so frustrating. Everything I find that's reasonably priced, I'll end up spending an additional $100 or $200 on delivery! I finished making my wine rack today out of an old pallet and was thinking, if I could get enough pallets I wonder if it would be possible to make a coop out of them. Someone did it here....

I think it looks great and mine wouldn't have to be nearly as big seeing how small my flock is.
Lynzi, Where did you get your Chcks? I am looking for Silkie Chicks. Regards, Aria
