NY chicken lover!!!!

I ain't that far from Bville. When these broodies start hatching these eggs there'll be plenty of chicks.
I wasn't going to drive to that one but since the kids dentist is out in Liverpool I figured if I got out of there soon enough I would pop in there as long as I could get home by 5 to work. After seeing how much further out of the way it was I should have just come home and hopped on 690 towards the E Syracuse store. Would have been easier since I drove right by it on my way home on 481 from coming all the way from Clay! Geeez, can you tell I like to waste money on gas? LOL

Well I'm sure there will be another time.

I've got a woman coming tomorrow for the chickens and chicks I had posted on CL. She sounded very nice and I expect she'll be joining us here. She had heard of us (BYC) but didn't know how to join up. Well good garden o' peas she'll be a member if I have to bring her in and get on THIS computer and help her.

I always tell people that they'll meet lots of nice people and learn a lot. Oh and I did tell her about the picnic we had last year. I do hope someone can host one this year. I suppose we could meet at a park if that would be easier. As long as there are grills to cook dogs and burgers it should work. We have a new bingo game I'm dying to play. We play at thanksgiving and give out little prizes.

Well gotta go finish dinner if I want to eat. DW is involved in a wedding thing.

ta, ta for now,

Rancher

I mentioned this site to the woman I gave my last chicks to but I never heard back from her. She was from Camillus. I had emailed her when I got home from meeting her (it was raining when we met) to tell her about BYC. She had two daughters and kept saying how much her daughters love hatching eggs and would even hatch some for me if I had fertile eggs but no incubator. But I never heard back. I was hoping she would join, I think both her and her daughters would love this site and meet a bunch of people, epsecially with so many of us being so close to each other in the Syracuse area.

I forgot to mention, we got our first egg of the year from Pearl! She is finally back to laying! So I'm back to getting 3 eggs a day (go ahead and laugh at my small count! LOL) from my cheeps until my lavender silkies start laying - hopefully by the end of summer.

HappyHensNY, the baby goat is ADORABLE!!!
I realized today after doing much reading online about chicken breeds and such and coming across many blogs in between researching that I am definitely not utilizing the scraps from my kitchen as well I should be. I mean, we'll toss out bread ends and left over eggs, toast, fruit out to the cheeps but never anything that has already spoiled. I always looked at it like, well I certainly wouldn't eat it so why would I feed it to my chickens?? I read online today that's its ok to toss food that has gone moldy or bad out to them such as fruits breads and other foods that are ok for chickens to eat. Is that right?? If it is I better start a compost pile this summer and leave it open to the chickens! Maybe I can go down from two trash cans a week to one!
I'm spoiled with the lunch scraps I get from school. They hear my car pull in in the afternoon and they come running. Spoiled birds.
But I won't feed ANYTHING "iffy". If in doubt, I throw it away. I won't risk their health for a few scraps. Mold, no way. JMHO.

it's been a while, I have lots of reading to do to catch up, hope everyone is well! we are still experiencing frozen water every morning up here on the hill... been really busy with work and chicken tending. the boys bachelor pen is set up, I have lots of space for breeding, and the December chicks are grown out and gorgeous, many started laying between 17-18 weeks which was awesome! I have loads of pics, but I'll limit myself to 2...

I'm ready for my really good quality birds a year earlier than I expected!

Glad you have a nice home for the chicks, Rancher. I am having my Bro. And SIL visit this weekend, and thought I should stick at 4 chicks in the basement...they are from the Boston area, and my brother loves to tease me by wearing John Deere hats etc. What kind of tease is that, he could almost look like he was trying to fit in. Maybe I should take him to knoxie's for a drink...or the Lafayette Inn...hmmm this could be fun.

I think her name was Cheryl. She does have two girls too. Well in either case she seemed excited about the site.
