NY chicken lover!!!!

Ugh will these temps ever warm up so my little chickies can venture out of the brooder and into their coop!

Ok they should never allow you to buy this many bantams at once. These little guys are a pain in the rear. They keep filling they're water up with shaveings I just hung the water dispenser alittle above the shaveings and they still filled it. I guess i'll have to try and make a stand or put a towel under/around it to try and keep it clean while at work cause I know wife wont really check it enough. GRRR.

There put a dish towel folded in half under/around littler water thing, and I will be putting a 9 inch round bake pan of sand in with them right before work see how they like that.

I named them all and its easy to tell them apart and by name. they're names are "little monster" "little monster" "little monster"...... you get the point lol.

later off to get ready for work have a nice evening everyone.

Hello all. Western NY here. West of Rochester half an hour. I am doing chickens(meat) for the first time this year, can't wait. I also want to do turkeys but they are so expensive. Does anyone have any extras to sell? Also thinking about ducks. Thanks!
Welcome!!!

Check out Craigs list for WNY (BUffalo) I have seen turkeys pullets in there for sale. Chickens & ducks as well.

Morning all. Looks to be a beautiful day today and I actually have the day off! Go me! Have to clean waterers today.

My little tater tots downstairs are growing like weeds and I am loving the coloring on the heritage rir's. So very different from my hatchery stock.

Let the terrorists and divas out yesterday. Dont know what is in the woods lately but they have been tearing it up something fierce!

Hope you are enjoying your day off. Here, the wind is really picking up (so sick of the wind) and clouds are piling up. Rain imminent, I guess.

I have heard that the better RIRs will be quite dark, not the paler version of what you often see. Not speaking from experience, obviously, just from what I've read.

While working outside so much recently, I've noticed lots of flying bugs (squashed the first mosquito of the year yesterday!), moths, even bees and wasps.

Here's the coop as of last night when I finished most of the staining job. Still a bit more to go on the back side, but almost done!

Brian (hubby) installed the automatic door today while I was at my mother's Cardio app't. It looks so cute (not in pic yet). Like a tiny leprechaun door!

Must run, but will check in to see what's going on here later tonight.

I have my water hanging for this reason. I still get a few shavings in it, but it's high enough that they can get their faces in to drink but no more walking in or bathing with it.

really nice!

Been too busy to keep up. Besides everything else I'm a legal farm now!

My recent fix for waterers? Taking the bottoms off, turning the white "bucket" upside down, placing some big rocks in it and topping it off with water! Rocks keep it from tipping over, keeps the chicks from drowning, and it stays free of shavings! Best thing I've done yet with these chickens!!!!

TOB - Beautiful!!! You need any chicken wire for windows? I have a whole roll sitting in my shed!

Here's a pic of the aliens dust bathing in the food while Charlie watches over and plays "Mother Hen", you can see the waterer on the other side of the coop door.

Got four large and one smaller garbage cans of mulch from OCRRA this morning and have been mulching the areas the girls have finished working on. They have done a very nice job, a few iris and daylily shoots have suffered, but not really too many. They did pick two daffodils and a hyacinth, but who can blame them, they were pretty. They missed the areas where grass had really invaded, but they paid extra attention to the ornamental grass in the front bed. So I've spread two Giant garbage cans full of mulch this morning. Time for a nap. Don't know whether to be pleased or insulted that the OCRRA guy punched my card today. I heard one of them say "might be a landscaper" WHO, me? Do I look professional, efficient, strong enough??? I looked really bad, painty jeans about 6years old, my coop coat, and a really bad hair day!! Usually they just look at me and say, oh you didn't really get much today, and never punch the card. Must have been my sons pick up truck looked like it was capable of moving lots of mulch. I can only get 6punches on the card.

Isn't life entertaining?

Rancher, I'll dig some holes for your evergreens...perhaps for some chicks in a couple of weeks?

Congratulations, Stony! Is it hard to become a real farm? My land was agricultural until we built our home, I'd love to get it back to ag, taxes would be so much more affordable.

Edited to undo the auto corrects and the mistakes that I made all on my own.
