NY chicken lover!!!!

Ugh will these temps ever warm up so my little chickies can venture out of the brooder and into their coop!

I built a hoop coop that I put a heat lamp in so they can warm up under. Mine are 2 weeks and have been "outside" since Sunday. They are doing fine. If it stays like today, I will open the door with the lamp on so they can warm up(like a broody). (no Stoney I DO NOT get as many broodies as you and MUST improvise

). I do have one Blue copper marans who will not break(marqu{I have a hard time with this spelling} and will give her some eggsI have incubating. Do you think that she will care that they are buckeyes and not marans?

Sorry tomorrow is my day off and I have treated myself to a second glass of wine. I need to go ride my big horse. Maybe I will wait till tomorrow.......

Here's the coop as of last night when I finished most of the staining job. Still a bit more to go on the back side, but almost done!

Brian (hubby) installed the automatic door today while I was at my mother's Cardio app't. It looks so cute (not in pic yet). Like a tiny leprechaun door!

Must run, but will check in to see what's going on here later tonight.

LOVE IT! nice design and color!!!

Sorry 3 are missing the one has pipped and it peeping...she is in a new box...clearly abandoned the old nest. Sorry I'm panicking a little...

So I can slide the egg that pipped under her in her new nest and she won't reject it? She is a first time broody...she was on 4 eggs as of last night and then I just got home, had a look and she is in a new box and the box she was in now just has the one egg that has pipped and is peeping very loudly. I slid the egg under her in the new box but is it possible she ate the other 3 she was sitting on?
yes you should put it back under her. Yes she may have eaten them. Or they may be in the coop somewhere. Are there any traces of eggs shells anywhere? The other thing I have seen with 1sttime broody's on a rare occasion is when the chicks hatch they freak out and eat the chicks. BUT you would see dried up egg shell evidence somewhere. About 1 out of 30 of my 1st time broody's will do that each year.
Slide that egg under her and hope for the best. That is really all youcan do at this point if the chick is still alive

Too weird!! Try to slide the egg under her. Hope it works out!!

I slid it under her again and I just went and checked and I don't see shell evidence anywhere, and i would since one of the eggs was green and my broody is my americana...I just don't get it, all the eggs were there last night and now just the one. I'll let you know what happens.

This yard is the same way! I struggled to plant more than half the plants I planted last summer here. I look at my rock driveway and feel like at some point this whole acre of land was nothing but rock! Not to mention the huge rocks I've had to dig out of a hole in order to plant a tree or perennial I wanted in a certain spot!

Forgot to ask, is anyone attending the Auburn TS animal swap this weekend? I saw an ad on CL and was curious if anyone was attending.
That swap meet is put on by the local Fingerlakes Feather Club. The name is misleading, its comprised mostly of people around the Syracuse area & east towards Oneida. There should be lots of birds to buy...

Something may have frightened her, or she just ate them. If I thought she ate them, I would not put the egg back under her. I would keep it warm until it hatches if you can. Otherwise, its up to nature.

Ohhh ok, I want to go just to see what one is like. I might bring my rabbit breeder friend along. I don't know that I'd buy anything from someone I don't know unless someone on here knew them and trusted them. After doing all the reading about bringing older birds in from other flocks and them having some sort of illness, I've stuck with purchasing birds from folks on here or trusted breeders.

Got four large and one smaller garbage cans of mulch from OCRRA this morning and have been mulching the areas the girls have finished working on. They have done a very nice job, a few iris and daylily shoots have suffered, but not really too many. They did pick two daffodils and a hyacinth, but who can blame them, they were pretty. They missed the areas where grass had really invaded, but they paid extra attention to the ornamental grass in the front bed. So I've spread two Giant garbage cans full of mulch this morning. Time for a nap. Don't know whether to be pleased or insulted that the OCRRA guy punched my card today. I heard one of them say "might be a landscaper" WHO, me? Do I look professional, efficient, strong enough??? I looked really bad, painty jeans about 6years old, my coop coat, and a really bad hair day!! Usually they just look at me and say, oh you didn't really get much today, and never punch the card. Must have been my sons pick up truck looked like it was capable of moving lots of mulch. I can only get 6punches on the card.

Isn't life entertaining?

Rancher, I'll dig some holes for your evergreens...perhaps for some chicks in a couple of weeks?

Congratulations, Stony! Is it hard to become a real farm? My land was agricultural until we built our home, I'd love to get it back to ag, taxes would be so much more affordable.

Edited to undo the auto corrects and the mistakes that I made all on my own.

I said I trade/barter for lots of things. Holes in the ground work. I hope in a couple of weeks I have more chicks to trade/barter.
