NY chicken lover!!!!

My little chick didn't make it thru the night.

I thought for sure there was a chance he would make it after seeing his head was no longer on the ground yesterday afternoon. He was just looking so lifeless though. The other's are still in the shed alive and well. So at least I have those. Just still upset about this little guy. He definitely seemed like the most outgoing one for being the smallest in size. I just hope out of these 4 left I end up with at least 1 hen!!! Their combs haven't been changing much yet so still no way to tell.

So sorry about your chick

It seems like its just been a bad end of the month for chicks...at least the rest all seem okay!

Speaking of mystery chicks, the one I recieved I'm pretty sure is an Egyptian Fayoumi...thoughts? Sorry I don't have a side or front shot on my computer but I don't know what other breeds have a "leopard" type print on their back. Plus s/he has skinny taller looking legs. The head is entirely the redish copper color.

I know, I was trying to be funny that's why I added the winky face at the end

if only it were that easy...

I've got hens that are sitting on eggs and I've been taking chicks as they hatch. I expect they'll stay till I leave them with chicks and pull all unhatched eggs. What have you got that you need set. I could always stick them under one of these hens for you. Though I wouldn't wait too long. The ee hen is on her second set and when she starts hatching I'm pulling her and her babies to brood.

I have one EE with 5 maran chicks now. It's difficult to deal with broodies unless you have a place to move them to and can do so without them breaking. Unfortunately I know I'll be pulling eggs and tossing the unhatched ones cuz there are just to many eggs for them to hatch.

So much to catch up on after only one day out of the loop!

Lynzi, so sorry about your smallest chick not surviving...I'm hoping the others will do just fine.

Rancher, good luck with lock-down! Can't wait to hear how the results turn out. Hoping for a great count.

County Boy - your chickens kill me! In a GOOD way!

Cass - what kind of chicken is Mean Marge. I am a Margie, so I resent that resemblance, haha!

Loving all the chick pictures. I dare not venture guesses on the mystery chicks posted. I can tell you that they are definitely cute, though.

My younger dog had to go in to the emergency vet's last night at 9:30. We didn't get home until after midnight. He has had this happen before where he gets a crazy reaction to something...the question is what, though our vet suspects it is likely multiple sources. He gets covered tip to toe in welts, some bigger than quarters. A few of them burst and ooze and his eyes and jowls swell. It's awful. After the triple crown of I.V. Dexamethasone along with Diphenhydramine and Prednisone, he is looking much improved....but verrrrry sleepy. He's a white pit bull cross with one blue eye, and has pink skin like a pig. Very sensitive to everything!

Must let my horse out and there are baseball games for each of my sons tonight, but I will try to catch up more later and give a coop update...it was a busy weekend with lots of progress on the coop. Life is a blur these days.

Please let us know. We always get these questions but no one ever comes back to give us the answer. Which is why I usually don't even offer a guess.
This and more of this. I've been googleing bantam chicks trying to find out mine I see some that look like mine but then people never say what they turned out to be. I think I have oeg's not sure about the white chicks 2 with some feathers on feet 2 without one with feathers has light tan face and light tan chest feathers starting. love assorted chicks it's a guessing game you can play with everyone lol.

well off to work later all

Lock down today and I swear I heard peeps. Moved them to the cartons. 30 eggs.

As for the chick posted. It's spot tells me it's roo, It's comb tells me it's a Dominique. Unless that was not one of the Mystery breeds.

But then if you knew it would not be a mystery would it?

does anyone here have BR's from Kathy in MO? I am looking for a rooster from her, but she seems to have dropped off the face of the earth.

I'm expecting some BR eggs from Fred's Hens (who's stock is from KathyinMO) to hatch this weekend. If you're interested in a cockerel later this summer, let me know.

There's little to no way of knowing or sure...I went thru each video of each exotic breed offered and broke it down to Dominique or CCManans....I guess time will tell....oh and I will keep ya posted. May end up needing to re-home a couple Roos!! I claimed two mystery Chix this season, the other was a Golden Laced Polish (we think). Any guesses??
I hope AlienRoo gets to stay!! =) (unless he turns into a kung fu master lol)..

Yesterday was beautiful. Spent the whole day outside turning over my gardens and adding composted manure. I replanted my strawberries and put out my garden ornaments. I wanted to plant my greens and radishes but I ran out of time and energy. My hatch of the second batch of eggs from when the power went out are hatching now. They were a little delayed but otherwise seem fine.

Nooknook--Your chick looks like our cuckoo marans when they hatch.
